Not sure about the speedfan issue, but when they are 49-65c, is this under load, if so, this is nothing to worry about whatsoever, they are pretty normal temps in fact.

When you start getting to 80-90's then you may have issues.

For instance the Intel® Core™ i5-2557M Processor has a TJ max of 100c, so this means the system "should" shut down at this temp, or throttle to reduce the temps.

and the fan is not running so much we can't hear it
so I'm looking for a progam to increase the fan speed

Those temp's really aren't an issue, perfectly normal :) the reason you won't be able to hear the fan to much is because it is not really needed to go at 100%, for reasons stated.

I think, with Acer laptops (if i'm wrong, someone will correct me), that there isn't anything or it is very difficult to control the fan in the laptop, I know in the past this has been the case.

Hello, i have problem with high temperatures on this laptop. Laptop is new (2 months old) but when i'm playing Deus Ex HR, laptop shuts down randomly. I used SPEEDFAN to log temperatures and when CPU temp goes to 90 C, laptops shuts down. My temps are 65-70 C when i'm only surfing on the web or writing this post, but during gaming temps goes to 90 C and shut down performs :(. Laptop always sits on my cooler stand with big fan, but this doesn't help. I tried to clean dust with vacuum cleaner, but it looks like airflow vents and cooler are clean.

Is it normal that this model overheats and shuts down?
Is there a way to raise max temp to 100 C instead of 90 (with modded bios or..) or raise the fan speed? Because even the fan is noisy on high temperatures, it doesn't use 100% speed. Because when i flashed the latest bios update, fan speed was at 100% during flash and was really noisy, much more like during gaming or cpu stress test (i used this test to discover max temp before the laptop shuts down - 90 C)

Or have i reclaim my laptop under warranty? Thanks for help.

    Hi and welcome to NBR.

First of all, I would stop using that laptop. It can't run that hot with even a cooler. What I would do at this point is to open up the laptop and repaste it. It can be a thermal issue. Did you buy it new brand new or second hand? Also, about the BIOS that is normal actually. Nothing is wrong with the BIOS..

Can you give me your full specs of your laptop? is it a core 2 due or i processor?

I would be glad to help you out with this. Let me know if there is anyting..

That cooler isn't very efficient at all, temperatures with or without it are the same, it just helps to safe my legs from overheating :).

This laptop is new, specs are:
    Acer Aspire 5742G
    15,6"
    Intel Core i3-380M 2.53GHz
    4096 MB DDR3
    640 GB SATA
    GeForce GT540M 1GB DDR3

I have the service manual for this model and dissasembly looks difficult, i don't want to mess with it too much when it's under warranty.

If it is brand new, send it in. Not worth the mess. And yes, it is a bit difficult. Most likely you got a faulty model or something like that.. You can always open task manager and see if there is any kind of virus which overloads your CPU causing it to overheat.

Basically there's no way to control fan speed.

mspeedo's laptop should have its vents cleaned and if it doesn't help - it's either disassembly and new thermal paste or service.

limolimolimo- your temps are OK- not even slightly high so you don't need any help.
