I want to get my parents a <$500 notebook. CC has this one on special for $399 this week:

    Acer Aspire Notebook PC (AS3618AWLCI)
    Pentium M 1.7GHZ 512MB Ram and 60GB HD

Best Buy has a Gateway for $480 I am also considering:

Gateway Notebook with Mobile AMD Sempron™ Processor 3100+
Model: MX6422 that also has a Firewire, DVD Burner, 80GB HD and comes with Windows Media Edition
Any suggestions??? - thinking of going with the Gateway...

Either one should be fine for light tasks.

I would choose the one that has the most feature and larger hard drive capacities. A DVD burner is really useful if your parents are into photography, or have a lot of videos to put to DVD. The Firewire helps with that - but I think the Acer has a firewire port, too.
