I know this may be a shot in the dark....

but i was wondering if anyone out there was travelling with a 19" laptop and what options were available for protection?

my GF picked up a used alienware 19" at a really killer deal that she mainly uses @ home, but when she comes to visit she lugs it out here. right now, she is just throwing it in the top of her carryon.

Ive done a bit of searching and dont think there is anything out there for this size. The largest ive seen is 17" and they are limited as is. Do any of you out there have a suggestion on what she could use?

I seriously hope that she does not carry that thing around on a regular basis...

Anyway, I'd say take the laptop to Best Buy and/or Circuit City and start trying to stuff it into a backpack to see if it would fit. Some of the 17" packs are rather large in my experience, even for 17".

How about leave the 19" at home and buy a 12" ultra-portable for the road? ;) That's what I did with the dv9500t for home-only and the iBook for the road. I can't imagine lugging a 19" alienware notebook around.

ill definately start lookin in to that. Luckily she doesnt travel too far. Mainly she moves it from room to room @ her dads, and will just toss it in the car for going to her moms.

the only time i could see it as being as issue is when she flies out to see me. sometimes these airports can kill ya with the distance from the ticket counter to the gate.

    Wow, she sounds strong :D

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. A padded backpack

The bigger backpack(one I linked to) is designed to fit the 19".

I always recommend people at least consider rolling cases however. After owning a ton of computer cases and now using a rolling case in conjunction with a handled sleeve, I will now never use anything else.
