    Hello,

can anyone suggest a great bag (maybe its the one you carry) for a large, heavy and quite thick 17 inch portable horsey?
Defenitely would prefer 2 or 3 additional zip pockets and a super thick shoulder strap pad.

    Im luggin around 30+ lbs.

backpacks probably wont work for my wanna be professional image.

dude, 30+ Lbs? that is a lot of weight to carry...

i have voodoo envy u709 and i carry it on a booqbag 17" slim case.
the belly of the bag bulges out cus it is slim...
looking myself for a 17" bag with more cargo space but really re-considering it cus i had many bags where the straps just gave up and had my other lappy bang it's corner against the floor.

i think swiss army makes a rolling bag that can accomodate 17"
    otherwise, booq makes nice bags.

good luck and fosure you are going to get quite a workout...

I have the booq python xl with the sager 5760 (m570u), which is 17in wide, and it fits easily with maybe a little too much room left over, and I think the internal dimensions on the booq and the python are pretty much similar. You could check out the dimensions on the booqbags.com site and measure your laptop and see for sure.

    very nice bags!

the python backpack would fit my rig, but unfortunately, i was looking for a shoulder bag, and they dont!
this company is definitely catering to powerbook users. My notebook is probably larger than 2 powerbooks sitting atop one another.

Thats what i meant by fat, slambooie.

if you have money buy the tombihn bags at tombihn.com
they are hand made in seattle, they cost a lot of money like around 150+ for the set, but everything is custom tailored to your perfection. they are high quality bags. i am thinking about getting it for my 15 4 but they fit up to 17in bags. check them out! also check out timbuk2 if you don't have lots of money. there a little cheaper but still have quality

those booqbags cost more than 150, so if you can get a custom bag for that much youre getting a deal in my eyes.

    will check em

I have an Asus A7J, which is one of the thicker new notebooks. I use a Targus Citygear Miami messenger bag, and I have space to spare. It can fit quite a thick notebook, and has some extra space for misc stuff. The shoulder pad is not the thickest in the world, but you can always rig up some extra padding (with 30lbs, I doubt any bag will have adequate padding). The only problem I noticed so far is that the bag doesn't seal the notebook completely; the top corners of the flap will lift up a bit and expose the corners of your notebook. Nothing outrageous, but if you often find yourself in dirty/rainy environments, that probably won't be very good. These bags are available everywhere, so you can go check it out aty a local office store.

ha, in this case, the thinner the 17 incher the better :D regardless of how fat your 17 incher is, it would fit in the booq boa xl. i believe it can accomadate a laptop thats about 3 inches, and there are no 17 inchers that are 3 inches thick, so any 17 incher will fit.

    thanks for your input everyone!
    especially those great pics, outrigger.

Ive made my choice, i went value and features over cool factor. (i did the cool factor with my sigg gear that held my last notebook).
check this link for the deal i got at buy.com. i tested this one out at circuit city first. With what you get for the price, i think it was a good choice.

and yes.... it's a roller! but it also has a comfy shoulder strap and a reasonably slim profile, so it will wear well on the shoulder.
I will undoubtedly get asked what the bright blue wheels are for though.

and scarf_face ive seen that bag of yours and i hope you have a good slipsleeve with it.

    thanks again

I was going to start a thread about what carrrying case one might use for the XPS M1710. Since this is about 17 inchers, ill just ask my question here. in the description of this dell carrying case, it says its made for the E1705. I was wondering since the M1710 has the same screen size as the E1705 would it also fit in this carrying case? Or is the M1710 a bit thicker and it wouldnt fit?

The E1705 and the M1710 use the same chassis, that case will work perfectly for the M1710 as well.

Thankx mZimm! ive had this beauitful lappy for a week now and im still a bit paranoid about carrying it anywhere outside of my house. if you have any other suggestions on another carrying case, please feel free to share. BTW, awsome 3d mark 06 score! Despite my having faster video, ram, and the same processor speed, you still beat my 06 score by almost 200 points.

Oh, and one more thing thats a bit off topic. I noticed in your XPS avatar that on the top right area of the pic is an area of white (I think?) I have that as well and thought for a moment that it was major leakage. im assuming that particular wallpaper was designed like that?

Yeah, it's just how the wallpaper was made. My screen has very minimal leakage actually. Thanks for the kudos on the score, I couldn't have done it without my helluva 7900GS and Joker's bootrom.

if I may ask, have you modified your 7900GS by overclocking? What exactly is jokers bootrom? Some kind of power up? Truth be told, 3d mark scores dont do much for me. I was just curious to see what I would score. I didnt even save it, I just remember it was in the mid 4800's
