Depends on what your budget is.

Also, do you have a sound card(Like the Audigy ZS 2?)

Klipsch are well known for their subwoofers. But from the looks of it, all the subs come with satellite speakers. I know they did sell a sub called the SWS by itself.

As coriolis said, depends on you budget. I have these setup on my desktop with Audigy 2zs and I can hear them anywhere in my house and even in the neighbors house. Nice sound output with little distortion at high volumes.

Why don't you get a good 2.1 system with a big sub. Altec lansing has some with a good size sub for around $100-$150. I have listened to these speakers before and everything is loud especially the sub. :)
But are you looking for something like huge? Something that will knock the pictures off your walls? ;)

The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's are great speakers. Good mids, highs and some nice bass. The sub is small, but this set was released a few yrs ago: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836119101

Then there's the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Ultras. These suckas kick ***. The sound is just incredible, especially when using a Audigy 2 ZS card. Be warned, the sub enclosure is huge, as its got dual 8" drivers, plus the amp. Personally, at 500w they might be too powerful for a dorm room setup, but then again, you won't be living in one forever ;)

    Well I have http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/docs/20040819/bose1_01.jpg
and am living on residence, plus my roomate has the same speakers...We already got tons of complaints of them being too loud and the base shaking the floor.

Strongly recommended, best speakers I have ever seen, really nice remote and Bose :).

I use them without any PCMCIA sound card, just normal plug them into the headphones port and **** do they do there job. Plus there is a headphone port and another port for speakers in the remote, so you can always expand further aka add more speakers.

I have a older Logitech Z560 system, it can rock pretty hard. One of my roommates had a 15" sub that was relatively cheap to buy, but if you opened the box up and added Dynamat the thing was insane. Our bathroom was directly above it, you could have a butt massage if he had music on loud while you were in there.

If you want the best 2.1 system out there, go for the Logitech Z-2300's. Unbeatable, especially for the price.

I would suggest that you take a trip to a electronics store like Best Buy, that sells pc speakers and take a listen to the units they have available. Then decide on which one sounds the best to you.
