sucks to hear about the fans. make sure u don't get a fan that is fatter than 29mm-30mm. i just measured the fan encasement and it measured about 30mm.

if u don't mind a little tinkering then it should make yur purchase(s) alot easier. i would focus on a fan that can fit the encasement and THEN worry about the wiring. u could always just splice the wires together. good luck with the replacement and let us know how it goes.

The Cryo uses run of the mill fans, so they usually die out within a year. Scythe fans are better, but they are still very low grade fans.
If you want something which will last, get an EBM Papst. I have some over 20 years old which are running in top form. They are a bit expensive but they last forever and you will never have to replace them.

Unfortunately the cheapest 120mm by them is around $30 and go up to around $200 per fan. So they are probably out of your budget.
I would recommend this fan for your system (try ebay for cheaper prices)

If the EBM's are too much I guess you can just get the scythe/other low quality fan from newegg and replace it every year.

thanks for the recommendation K-tron, but another thing to consider is that i use a 5v dc to usb power brick to power the three fans. im not looking to replace the fans every year so i suppose i could up the budget a little for quality fans...

i dont care about noise either.

Are your current fans 5V or 12V?
    and
what is the amperage rating on your power brick?

The info should be on the label on the fan, and the power brick respectively.

might have to wait a little bit for that answer as i am currently on the road and dont have my cryo with me. i can tell you that the power brick is an apple ipod wall charger if that is any help to you.

    maybe houstoned can answer that.

i tried to search up the info for u guys, but couldn't really come up with too much. all the (OEM) apple ipod chargers i searched up were 12v's.

i then checked on nzxt's forum and found this post. apparently, NZXT is now supplying AC-DC adapters. u just have to email them with yur invoice.

"Manufacturer Response:We are sorry for any inconvenience you may have experienced. We meant to say was that we now have the DC-AC Adapter for the Cryo LX, but you need to request it by emailing [email protected]. It may have been a misunderstanding and we apologize for that."

i'll try to find out more info later, when i have some more free time. if u guys still can't find out what u need, i'll try to take apart the fan setup later and see if i can see any stickers. hope this helps.

thanks for your help houstoned. i do know that my ipod charger is only 5v though. if necessary to power the fans, ill get a 12v dc to usb power brick.

Well a 12V power supply will run the fans at full.
Most 12V fans will run at 5V. All EBM fans will run at this voltage. They are tolerable up to 3.8Volts.
5V power running 12V fans is effectively a fan controller, which lowers fan rpm, reducing noise.

What is the amperage on your 5V power supply

You should be able to run all three
According to my EBM Papst catalog, they use 5.3watts at 12V, and 2.3 watts at 7V, which should be very close to the power used at 5V.
at 7V, each fan would be using 0.19Amps of power.
So three of them, would be about 0.60 amps

If you ran all three at 12V, each would use 0.44 amps, which would be 1.325Amps

so basically what you are saying is that either i run the fans at a lower speed and thus not getting the full CFM of air pushed to the laptop, or find a new power brick thats powerful enough to run them at full speed, right?

With a 5 volt power supply you will only get around 40cfm per fan
If you were to buy a 12volt power adaptor, you would get the full 100cfm out of each fan, but it will be a bit louder.

If you are not happy with 5V performance, get a 9V power supply, or something in between. As long as it is rated for 1.25amps or more you are good to go

how thick can your cryo take?

I have two 120mm papsts, but I think they are 38mm thick

EDIT, i just saw houstoned said that it can only take 30mm or thinner fans.

I known this thread is rather old but I'm also looking to replace the fans of my nzxt cryo lx. the fans that came are very crappy ones.
I'm looking for good quality low noise high performance fans. a good cfm/dba ratio. also remember that the cooler has a fan controller so noise and airflow can be controlled. There are hundreds of fans to choose and I really don't have an idea what fans to buy. I would like some leds but performance is first. some scythe or noctua ones? I really dunno what to choose.

scythe s-flex 1900rpm hands down IMO; for the following reasons:-

    - black colour; dont look ugly like the nocturna ones lol
    - magnetic bearing system; low noise + ok for horizontal mounting
    - relatively quiet @ 12v and even @ 15v

for pure power: 3x scythe kaze jyuni 1900rpm @ 15v. The downside being is the increased noise and not really suited for horizontal mounting.

i dont use the 4 port hub anyways.....besides i have s spare one so if it ever did burn, it's an easy swap out.

been running the LX on 15V for the past 3months with no ill effects on the fans.

oh well just bought some Cooler Master Y720DCD-25T1-GP on promotion.
110 CFM 16.5~38 dBA they all came with fan controllers, I can use them for other stuff.
great price performance though. no need to buy +25$ fans.
I just need to mod them so the led won't fade out when throttling the speed.
    hope it works.
