    Hello,
I recently got some wireless setup to display what was on the laptop on to my tv. The picture quality was just completely HORRIBLE. I am now looking for a cabled connection (one cable) that I can run between the laptop and the tv that will keep the quality as good as it is on the laptop. It is a Dell Inspiron 8600 and the tv can handle probably anything thrown at it.

Depends on what ports your laptop has. You've probably got VGA, and if your HDTV has VGA then that's one way of connecting. My laptop has HDMI, so that's what I use. And picture quality is going to depend on the resolution of the screen. Because the resolutions aren't that high on HDTVs (despite the portrayal of "high def"), and such a large screen size, don't compare your current laptop monitor quality to your TV's quality, because your monitor will be much better because of the smaller size.

As I said, use VGA, because it's probably gonna support it.

    look at your computer

    look at your tv

find a cable that has 1 end that fits your computer with the other end fitting your tv

    don't forget about audio

Okay so a vga to vga would include sound and probably be best quality for what I am doing I suppose? To get the best view I would need to set my laptops resolution as high as possible and that should help, is that correct? TV isn't too large, somewhere around 26-30" I'd say.. but the wireless thing I had tryed was pure crap.

I just use VGA with my desktop to my 42" LCD HDTV. Also, you need to make sure you know what resolution your TV can handle. I've read that sending it the wrong resolution can mess some of them up. My TV only handles 1024x768.

I have just used a M/M VGA cable before to hook my notebook up to our HDTV. Not that hard... just find a good resolution and some way to hook up audio. Or at least, wasn't for me... though I did have to fool with my Card settings to get the HDTV as the main screen or something, I think.

    hello,
my father has this computer, so i'm very familiar with it.
the choices for your model are s-video or vga. i recommend vga, your tv most likely has it. if you arent sure, vga is the blue 15pin connector.

check this cable out, its vga with built in audio. the link i'm sending you is just so you can see it, shop around for better prices.

    http://www.av-cable.net/VGA-component-video/vga-cables-audio.html

just get a headphone-rca splitter to complete the audio line.

    i hope this helps.

vga to vga is fine but doesnt carry audio, so connect audio to your surround sound or amp if you have one with the tv or from the audio out to your tv

and like mentioned, check your tv manual to see what vga resoloutions it can run and what its native res is, and dont forget to set your nvidea control panel to clone mode so it detects the screen, ive got my laptop conected to a hdtv with vga, and have the laptop closed when im on the big screen playing games etc, and open the laptop to use the internet while watching tv :)
