Ive been trying out some laptop coolers for my T60 going over 85, and I think the problem is that the intake seems to be on the back panel of the laptop instead of on the bottom, rendering a lot of the laptop coolers pretty ineffective. am I wrong on this? and if not, what laptop coolers out there are able to effectively cool down a T60? any other T60 owners help!!

On a T60, the fan air intake is actually under the upper left corner of the keyboard (under the Esc key) where it draws in air from *all* the vent openings around the perimeter and base of the laptop's case then shoots air out past the hot copper heatsink fins in the exhaust vents at the T60's far left corner. IOW there's no one single dedicated intake vent at all.

If your T60 is running over 85 C, chances are real high that the heatsink fins are clogged up with dust. Until the heatsink fins are blown out with compressed air, a laptop cooler won't do much good.

x2p i actually did read through the buyers guide to coolers and I didn't see any that i thought would significantly work for the T60 as it has no vents open to the bottom, as you advised that the intake vent on the laptop and the cooler should line up for optimal results. i did however find it helpful, so thanks :)

meekus: i think i will have to try that, the T60 runs great at 50's when on max battery profile and around 60-70's when on thinkpad default mode but once i hit max performance it lingers in the 80's. Do you know of any coolers that i can use that will aid specifically for the vent position on the T60 (after I clean out the dust in the fan of course :)? thanks so much

You could measure the distance from the front of the keyboard and go to my nc2000 review on page 6 (or close to it) I posted measurements of the vents so you could check if it lines up if too big you could try for the nc1000 which is slightly smaller. Also the notepal infinite is one you would have a good shot at aswell.
