    Hey everyone.

I posted a comparison between a couple headsets on the Side Topic but I wanted to continue the decision I had made over here considering the hardware inside the M15x.

    This is the hardware inside:

    High-Definition 5.1 Surround Sound Audio
    IDT 92HD83
    24-bit (analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog)
dual 8-ohms speakers in both the left and right speaker assembly
up to 2 W per channel; up to 4 W total power
dual digital-array microphones in the display assembly
program menus and media control buttons
two audio output/headphone connectors and one audio input/microphone connector
The audio input/microphone connector also functions as an output connector in a 5.1-channel surround-sound speaker setup

I want to have a effective HEADPHONE. I will not be getting a mic on it. I will get a clip on Zalman. I do not want to sacrifice quality of audio for a microphone.

So I have the Sennheiser HD555 on order. My budget is $120 or less. I got them for $80. Since the sound card does support Surround...should I look at a 5.1 headset? Is the HD555 a good choice even with a surround sound supporting card?

I know nothing of audio so please help me.

    Thanks!

I don't think there are any true "5.1 headsets" - and even if, the highest end Sennheisers are still stereo.

"Sourround headsets" simulate it more I believe.

Per se there is nothing wrong with Sennheiser HD555

    (personally I prefer IEMs)

5.1 in headphone just does not work too well. Stick with the HD555 or better yet buy a set of AudioTechnica AD700. Supposedly Shure SRH440 is pretty decent for the price as well. Anyway I would look around a bit more.

I'll vouch for my AD700's, I love these things to death, the only thing that compares with them are my Phonak Audeo PFE's, which are in-ear phones and they sound excellent, both are priced around $100-120.

arent AD700's lacking in bass? i always find games need some decent bass.

555 sound a good choice. 595 if you can get them though. sound quite a bit better to me. (although i only had a brief listen)

Personally I quite like the versatility of the G35. It's a decent headphone when used in Stereo mode, and as a gaming apparatus it's vastly superior to the Senn + Zalman combo.

If bass is the primary concern it would do well to save up for DT770 etc. HD555 is not for a basshead. It has a bit more bass than the AD700 but it does not go as low so it sounds very hollow.

lot of pro level gamers use headphones with great soundstage and not those marketing bs surround sound headphones.

Sennheiser HD555 should be far better.

but if u want bass then go for closed headphones...as they let the sound resonate..giving a more heavy sound

i make music...so know little bit about sound & sound equipment.

    hope that helped

No open headphones in this price range really have a ton of bass. You'll have to go closed for that.

I prefer stereo headsets over virtual surround. My personal recommendations go to the Razer Carcharias ($80) and Plantronics GameCom 377 ($50). They're both excellent stereo headsets with superb sound quality, both in terms of what you hear and what you broadcast via the mic.
