    just ordered a nice gaming logitech mx518 mouse. am now reading about "gaming mousepads". people seem to rave on about what a difference they make. do they really make a difference? is it worth buying one at prices of around >£17($30)??

    depends on what you want

    Cloth = control

    Really smooth surface = speed

    That said, I used to play competitive game and big sellers were the icemat and steelpad. The icemat is made of glass, and the steelpad is (as you guessed) made of metal. They are primarily for speed, while I loved my cloth-pad for gaming. (my mouse was really sensitive, so control was the best mix)

    But in the long haul, mousepads are only helpful in first-person shooters, while buying one for a mmorpg would be worthless. In my opinion, a good mousepad really isnt a big deal, get a good mouse and good headphones. Then if you have some spare cash, get the pad.

    Oh and I just remembered, func-pads are ok too.

    I just use a large mousepad. I have a Razer Pro Solutions v1.6 mouse (1600 dpi) so speed isn't much off an issue, infact I have the sensitivity set down a more than halfway, otherwise I would just be spinning around in BF2.

    Ha, for gaming I use to use a black sheet of construction paper taped down to my desk. Talk about saving some pennies. But the paper worked well and never had any laser skipping issues like I did on a wood grain surface. Can't beat the price though.

    thx for advice arman, but ur top 5 players in the world cup!!??
    this is how i think it shud b (not necessarily in order of how they actually perform in the world cup itself):
    -ronaldinho
    -henry
    -rooney
    -gerrard
    -kaka

    no offence, this just my opinion. i would have said ronaldo in their too b4 shameful performances so far.

    well yes, it would be a lot differen't if it wasn't in the world cup, but i should have clerified it, I mean top 5 players based on the 2006 fifa world cup performance's, if it was based on their performance's in club and national team it would be different.

    Can't go wrong with the Icemat. It's amazing how smooth and easy the mouse slides over the surface. It's also incredibly precise.
