i currently have a notepal infinite, but i feel it doesn't cool my laptop well enough. i've been looking at the zalman, enermax aeolus, nzxt cryo, and the antec 200. which of these do you think would work best with my laptop?

What performance do you expect from a notebook cooler? Most (all) of them are just being used to dissipate heat around and at the bottom of the notebooks.

If your system runs hot, you might want to look at inside and use different thermal paste or a clean up.

    cheers ...

the bottom of the notebook is above. on the left is the HD, in the middle are the ram modules, and on the right hand side is the CPU and the CPU fan. i'm unsure where exactly the GPU is.

well i've found that the notepal infinite is cooling the edges more than the center, so i was hoping for one that would cool more evenly and possibly blow more air up against the bottom of the laptop.

i'm talking with asus now to see if they can RMA it and reapply thermal grease and all that fun stuff.

i use the nzxt cryo and it cools the both ends and the center very well. with 3 large fans blowing, i don't have a heating problem. however, as a precaution, i run it thru a usb hub with a ac connector to prevent drawing more power into the laptop, plus i connect my mouse and other device thru the hub as well.

If you would like a proper precaution you can just solder a diode on the usb power coming into the cryo to prevent reverse flow of electricity. I would be surprised if it didnt have one already.

Does your G1 have the 8600? Theyre notorious for being hot and failing ofcourse. If its under warranty you can send it in for complaints of overheating.

Which side is the front, battery bay or not battery bay? Also I recommend you try to do a few basics like cleaning your fans to see if you can get your times down first.

The G1S' cooling system is stupid. The air get's pulled in through the hdd bay, then go pass the GPU (8600GT), then to the CPU heat sink. The GPU is connected to a passive heat sink which is stupid. CPU gets "cooled" by the warm air.

From my experiences, the Notepal Infinite doesn't do a bad job at keeping the G1S cool at manageable temps. At the end of the day, a bad cooling system is a bad cooling system. Not alot you can do.

Whoever designed the G1S really needs to be beaten with a stick.

(FYI, I do not own a G1S, but have maintained/gamed with one excessively, it is still running ok almost 2 years on with a cooler. I have taken it apart, cleaned it, changed thermal paste, the whole lot, if it was mine, I would have modded the case :p.)

While it sounds worse than the G50 its the same concept. The G50 just draws from alot of other places. It doesnt do as well on a cooler as other systems do.

i am sending it in today because of overheating. I had spoken with asus and they told me that if it's a problem with the mobo it'll be 8-10 weeks...hopefully they replace it with the 9500 gs, but who knows.

i do clean my fans and vents, about once every two months. and the battery is the front.

The problem is, the small vents on the CPU panel were intentionally blocked (with tape) so that the air only enters through the hdd drive bay therefore it must pass through the GPU's passive cooler.

i had already taken off the black tape on the cpu panel. and well, i will be shipping the computer to asus in the morning. hopefully they do some magic with it and are able to get it to run at a lower temp both while idle and under load.
