You know, there are multiple threads on these. But, back to the topic, are you an audiophile? If not, anything will probably suffice. 2.1? 5.1? 7.1?
-
Yeah, the first order is to figure out how many speakers you want. 2? 5? 7? You will need a soundcard to run the 5 or 7 though. For a 2.1 setup Logitech x-230's are an amazing buy for the money. I have a set and they are more than worth the money. Sound great and are cheap. The Z series is higher powered and much better sounding, but comes at a higher price. The arguable best 2 speaker setup is made by Klipsch Pro Media.

z-2300 if you want to get your neighbors fired up
just 5 minutes ago i had some hip hop songs on with the bass cranked and my neighbor called over and asked to turn it down.... haha
and my friends know what song im listening to when they're across the street from my apartment during the day... very powerful subwoofer and speakers, and also THX certified and i find the quality to be great -
not an audiophile man. I need to get a speaker system that gives alot of sound to a room. that can play loud. No need for surround. just two satelites and a beefy woofer.
Chonga came close. Those speakers looks annoying. Annoying as in good. -
If you want 2.1 system, think about excelent Altec-Lansing VS 4121.In fact, anything what is made by Altec Lansing is the best
-
If you are looking for a relatively unexpensive 5.1 surround system, look into the Logitech 5300e speakers. It's a very good set of speakers with a subwoofer that can give you a lot of bass.
-
For 2.1 speakers, the best two are, as stated: the Logitech Z-2300 and Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system. Both are THX certified (though I believe it took the Z-2300s some time to get certified). The Klipsch is generally regarded as having better clarity in the middle and upper range of sound, while the Logitech set has a THUNDEROUS bass. In addition, the z-2300 have a device to hook it up to a gaming console. Search around for price though, they vary a lot. So far, the cheapest I have found both of them the cheapest at techonweb.com It has a pretty good resellerratings.com rating. I bought a set of Z-2300 like a week and a half ago, they're supposed to arrive Monday.
-
I have both the z-2300 and the pro media 2.1 and the pro media 2.0 all are very recomendable. I prefer the promedia 2.1 to the z2300 most of the time but when I want to out do everyone on my floor in my dorm I use the z2300's because as somebody put it they have THUNDEROUS bass.........but when I'm watching a movie, I use my pro media 2.1 system.
here's a link to a thread I created a while back that you might find helpful:

hey im also looking into getting speaker from bestbuy. The logitech speaker you were talking about earlier seem to be the cheapest. I might get them! These are them right? :
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...=Logitech+x-230&type=product&id=1083710906282 -
If by them you mean the x-230 then yes......but there were other logitechs mentioned.....the z2300's and the z5300e's.....the z5300e can be purchased online but the z2300 are not at bestbuy....they are at circuitcity.
what's you price range? Do you need 2.1 or would 2.0 suffice? -
well i have $110 in best buy gift certificates, and i am looking at a lot of different stuff to get (headphones, mouse, speakers)...
I think i would want the 2.1 speakers, i already have some good speakers for my psp, but these logitech 2.1 speakers look great with the subwoofer and all... and its a good price too... i think im gunna go to best buy and check out these speakers along with some other stuff (the logitech mx revolution mouse or a bt mouse)... -
for the money the x-230's are a very decent set of speakers......they were my first set I bought when I got my laptop.......I now prefer my z2300's but I still use the x-230's for music and some light gaming on an old spare parts built desktop I have.
-
the z2300 is the bigger, 5.1, speakers right?
I dont want a 5 piece, i think im going to get the x-230... if i get any speakers at all -
The z-2300 is a 2.1 system. It is basically a bigger version of the x-230...literally. The set weighs 36 pounds. It's watt outage is extremely high for a computer 2.1 system (200 total).
The z-5300e, z-5400, z-5500, z-5450 are all 5.1 systems. -
I got a Logitech X-230 speaker system for $30 and they are amazing! I can turn the bass all the way up and just blast it in my dormroom and it penetrates the walls like no other. I mean, sure if you have the money to spare, get the 5.1 digital system but I dont think anything compares to these for the price.
Also they are pretty durable. I accidentally played REALLY loud sounds on them a few times before to the point of them crackling and they still run perfectly and clearly. -
These are my speakers.

85 Watts total power. But oddly enough on newer boxes it says 100.
Then these are what I'm looking at to replace them.

I think you'll be content with any of these two configurations are anything similar. I'm quite happy with mine, but I want more boom. The sub is good at 4 bars on the volume meter, but anything past and it starts to get sucky.
I typically don't like logitech speakers, because of the built quality. There seems to be a bias on these forms, but my experience with logitech speakers is that they often seem to tear or are easily susceptible to it. My friends have had logitechs and switched to creative, because the 2.1s creative offers have metal drums. I may go to logitech, I like their selection because there is more of it with more loudness...so i dunno. -
i meant the x-230's ... i think i might be geting them here:

If you like that pair of speakers get them. The X-230 are decent for the price and value.
-
yeah im gunna check it out at bestbuy probably today...
-
they are the same price as the z2300's and in my opinion, are a better quality than the logitech's. If you want to test run them you can find them at most bestbuy's. -
-
Uh... wow... if your gonna get the craptastic z10 you may as well get z-2300's...
Unless you prefer shiny craptastic black and white lcds over ACTUAL SOUND QUALITY -
now now Zellio.....there's a reason the z10's cost so much.....but I agree that for the money you might as well get the z2300's
-
yeah i agree...
lol "craptastic" thats an interesting word... -
Yeah there's a reason they have built in lcds, no subwoofer, and a price higher then z2300... it's called, good looking, no sound.
And yes, these don't have a subwoofer. The subwoofer is built into the speakers!!
Unless you buy into the Bose garbage, in which case, you don't know a thing about music, you should know that you can't fit good sound into such a small package. -
Well, the creative T20 aren't bad for 2.0 same with he klipsch, granted compared to 2.1 they won't compare even to cheaper ones but still for 2.0 they aren't bad.
-
Even if you have best buy credit...I still wouldn't buy the x-230 there...you can spend it on something better. You'll end up paying nearly $70...and for that price, I don't think the x-230 are worth it anymore. You can get them online+shipping for less than $50. I'd spend that credit you have on something that's actually on sale/good buy...I bought my G5 for $40 there, not too bad a price.
-
wats a G5?
and yeah i was also thinking about getting a mouse (maybe logitech revolution, or a bt mouse), headphones, camera, notebook case, etc, at besbuy. There are so many other things to get... -
-
i dont do too much gaming, and id rather take advantage of my built in bt
-
Wow this thread has grown.. Lol..
Well lot of interesting suggestions here. Klipsch are surely a option. Klipsch has been in the speaker game for lots of years. Pretty much dominated discos in the 70's with their horns. I DO like to get a set of speakers that sounds good trough the whole range. Not just a boomy bass and the rest is bad porrage comming out. But still, multimedia speakers has come far in technology. I owned a pair of decent cambridge systems a while ago. And with a size of the sub that had, it packed alot of bass.
Klipsch are up for valuation. as well as the z-2300. Might go for the klipsch!
Thanks all! -
between klipsch and logitech, the klipsch is far more balanced.
-
If you don't really have a budget, go for Klipsch.
-
another vote for the klipsche here.

You know Gamermatt, not to sound intrusive, but you are currently hijacking the thread. It's great you made your decision, but this isn't your thread. I apologize if you are offended, that was not my intention.
