All I have is my laptop, no tv, no external monitors, etc. I'd like to buy a PS2 and an Xbox360 in the near future.

Through searches it seems that there's either a quality issue or slight lag when using a usb tv tuner.. however how about those that are internal? I noticed the HP DV5 for example has an option for a built in tv-tuner, will this work?
I've also heard of the Avermedia Volar max usb tv tuner that is supposed to be good.

or should I just get an external lcd with a built in TV-tuner? (perhaps one with an IPS screen as well?)

just get an external LCD.... using ur laptop to play games = faster deathrate for your laptop....

not to mention that a 19" LCD > a 13-15" laptop screen if ur at home and 'docking'

ur using ur laptop more to play games on the screen... using it more = dies faster right? (unless ur in some kind of universe where its the oppsite.... :D)

unless u want to game on-the-go with ur laptop when u go visit someone else, i'd stick to an external LCD

You mean that the screen wares out quicker than normal browsing? :) I really never seen an LCD get worn out :)

But i can agree that it's more suitable to play on an external screen!

Plus, internal TV tuners can introduce a delay in video and audio as it encodes the analog signals from your console into digital image & sounds for use.

I've played video games on a low quality TV tuner on my laptop. I had no lag issues with it. Worked fine.

The two internal tuners I have seen are actually USB devices. They plug into a slot on the motherboard, but are reported in Device Manager as USB connected devices.

Get the LCD. You will be happier in the long run.

Since you've successfully managed to play games with an attached console, maybe you might be able to help me figure this out.
I'm able to watch& record tv with my tuner which has five inputs:three RCA-red, white, yellow
    one svideo
    and one RG6 (Coaxial)
I've got the PS2 connected to the RCA inputs but I can't seem to detect the signal with my laptop.
I'm positive the jacks are inputs.
    Thanks.

hi i work on the offshore oil rigs and like to play games while i am away from home working my old laptop was not to great at playing games and struggled to play fear at low settings.

As such i spent a lot of time looking into how i could utilise my 17" laptop screen for playing my 360 or ps3.
The device i found was called game bridge that was manufactured by adaptec now while this worked as a bit of a fix for me while at work, I have to say that the results were far from great i did notice in games like assasins creed and cod4 the visual experience was far from enjoyable, for instance sniper missions on cod4 were almost impossible.

Another thing that ruined my hgaming experience was the fact that whenever you character was running in the game everything seemded to be a bit blaired.
dont get me wrong it works ok for traveling but i went and got myself a better laptop in the end, if you are never going to travel with your consoles i i would suggest getting a tv to get the full potential out of your 360.

    Hope this helps
