    Greetings,
I recently installed the internal Bluetooth (v1.2) chip in my laptop, at last. I have been pondering the idea of getting a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard so I can eliminate at least one wire from my desk.

I'm a big fan of the Dell Quietkeys, I have a hard time buying other keyboards, this caught my eye:
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=310-8142
Appears to be the same thing as the regular Quietkey - the newer ones I really enjoy.

Now for my question - is there any lag when typing on a bluetooth keyboard? - as in, is it just like corded? I am very hesitant to buy a wireless keyboard - I had a Logitech one, and I could tell there was a split second lag inbetween me typing the key and it registering the screen. Yet others have been perfectly responsive. That was wireless though, not sure how different Bluetooth is, if at all.

Will be very interested to hear responses, thanks for reading.

    Regards,
    Chaz

"I had a Logitech one, and I could tell there was a split second lag inbetween me typing the key and it registering the screen" ?? i have never expirience this kind of lag before no matter what keyboard i use, both wired and wireless.. u may want to check your system performance.. yes there is lag when you hard dirve or your cpu is processing intensively... but if they are idle, there should not be any lag at all.

I still think you should get a good old corderd keyboard chaz. There are lots of problems that can arise with wireless keyboards. But hardly anything can go wrong with a corded one.

If you dual boot, don't get a bluetooth keyboard -- you can't make selections at the bootloader. That's my only experience with bluetooth.

True, I thought of that and realized it would not be a problem because my laptop's keyboard is still hardwired.

It was odd - I had a Logitech diNovo wireless keyboard, I'm not sure the wireless reciever was that great on it. I'm sure if the lag with Bluetooth keyboards was apparent or more common, it would be on the web more, but since it's not, I am going to assume that the lag is nonexistant.

I might stick with a corded, they certainly are a lot cheaper - $23 for the non-bluetooth version of that keyboard, without the mouse that the bluetooth one has (I wouldn't use it anyway).

    Thanks for the replies.

I have been researching keyboard/mouse combos for work, need wireless for group meetings. All the bluetooth ones seem to get mixed reviews; some people like them, some say they won't stay connected or lag horribly. Our plan is to buy one locally, and if it sucks return for an RF set.

have you tried using the laptop keyboard and mouse... if there is lag then the board has some pb..
also, try using ps/2, usb keyboard.. as far as i know, usb and ps/2 mouse behave differently.

I use an external Razer mouse and Dell USB keyboard right now, no lag at all. My laptop's built-in keyboard doesn't have any problems either. So it's definitely not my machine.
I don't have a PS/2 port on my laptop, so I'd have to get a USB > PS2 adapter. I'll just stick to USB, seems like PS/2 is on the way out.

I have an Apple bluetooth keyboard that I use with my iMac and there is no lag at all.
