    What type of hard drive enclosure do I need?

    They could just do as well with a USB adapter to HDD and hook that hard drive to their new computer and just transfer the data over without all the hassle of using a ext HDD enclosure. I use that less costly and if the HDD dies after that process all they are out is the money spent on the USB adapter kit which would cost alot less then the enclosure kit itself would.

    The enclosure kit was only $6.50 shipped.
    That adapter you linked to is $22 shipped...

    They both do what you need it to do. However, the enclosure will allow you to use the extra hard drive for other uses such as storage. The adapter can be used if you have many hard drives laying around and do not want to go through the hassle of putting it into the kit. Instead you just hook it up to the adapter and hook the other end into computer.

    If you just have one extra hard drive, then just get the enclosure, the 6.50
