Depends on the ports on your laptop and TV.

I use HDMI, but it depends on your TV. Maybe S-Video if it is an older TV.

If you have a VGA connection on your monitor, then you need a VGA Male to a VGA to a VGA (Female I think).

If you have a DVI connection on your notebook and monitor, you should use a DVI - DVI cable.

If you have an S-Video connection on your TV, AND on your notebook, then you should use an S-Video - S-video cable.

If your notebook ONLY has VGA out, and your TV does not have VGA in, then you need to buy an adapter unit, such as the Adaptec GameBridge.

We could help a lot more if you tell us what ports you have on your laptop and TV. If you don't know what all the ports are called, just take some pictures and post them here.
