Hey all, I am looking for a new mouse to game with and i have seen and like the G9, G9x and the Razor Mamba..
What are your thoughts on these items?

The G9 is a nice mouse
The mamba is also cool, but expensice, and i prefer my mice to be wired for gaming
Also consider the Logitech G5, Razer Diamondback/Copperhead/DeathAdder
Have a read through this thread for more info on which mouse is best for you
Hope this helps -
Cant go wrong with logitech.
My current G5 has been going strong for years.
The G5 and G9 are both excellent mice. -
the G9x is the updated version of the G9. only real difference is 5000dpi vs. 3200dpi. the mamba is a wholly different animal and has the potential to revolutionize the gaming mice scene. it can be used both wired and wireless, and features a 5600dpi sensor. if Razer can get the wireless to work without noticable lag or other difficulties, the Mamba might be one of the hottest mice of the year.

Make sure you hold the mouse in your hand to test out the comfort first. I personally hate the way the G9 feels in my hand, but I love the way the Deathadder feels. Remember that your 5000 DPI doesn't mean a thing if your hand gets fatigued after 20 minutes of gaming.

Yeah the thing you may wanna do is go to your local retailer and try out the mouse.
Many retailers such as Bestbuy have 30 day return policy if you don't like the product/defect/etc.
I'd pick up the mouse locally to try it out, and then look towards online etailers for the best price (and return the MSRP price).
ofcourse, some prices from the local retailers are just as good.
I myself am still using my Logitech MX518 mouse I bought 3+ years ago, didn't like the feel of the G5 or G9. -
I'm using a Logitech G9 right now, and I find it very comfortable, especially with the wide-load grip. Even with the Precision grip, though, I can game for over an hour quite comfortably. I highly recommend it, or the new updated G9X. It's the same mouse, same grips, just with a 5,000 DPI laser instead of the original 3200.
I've also heard plenty of good things about Razer mice, although my experience with them is very limited.
Another one you might want to look at is the Microsoft Sidewinder. When I bought my G9, the Sidewinder was definitely my second choice. The only reason I didn't get it is because the vertical thumb button placement was slightly awkward because I have huge hands.
I've owned plenty of Logitech and Microsoft mice in the past, and I've never had quality problems with any of them. I say they're both quality brands. My gaming mouse recommendations go to the Logitech G9X, and the Microsoft Sidewinder.
Hope this helps you choose! -
logitech g9 is $79.99 or probably lower now at Circuit city... it sels for $99.99 in other stores. just thought i would let you know if your considering it.
-
The original G9 sells for $89.99 on Logitech's own website, and Newegg.
TigerDirect seems to have the best deal on it, at $54.99 after a rebate: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3255869&CatId=2390
The G9X hasn't gone on sale yet, but Logitech's website shows it will be $99.99 on release. At this point I would probably just get the regular G9 from TigerDirect rather than waiting for the G9X and paying $35 more. -
I use a G9 with my lappy. Really nice mouse. I love the dual-mode scroll wheel.
I also employ a Steel Series Ikari Laser on my desktop. Equally as good, a bit more precision options, but a tad larger in footprint. -
I'm really happy with my SideWinder mouse.

G9 and G5 are awesome, wont let ya down.

I'm using a Logitech G5 as we speak (Well, as I type ).
I gave a full day completely dedicated to feeling mouses in stores (Literally).
I tried everything bestbuy/walmart/target/circuit city/staples/any store that sells them locally.
The best I found for my hand was the G5, though I recommend before you buy it, you feel the MX518 as well, it has a different side grip, I mention this because some people complain that they like the MX518's SMOOTH grip better, and some people complain they like the G5's ROUGH grip better.
Personally I like the G5's Rough grip better, What I mean about rough and smooth is, if you look in pictures, you see the black part of the mouse's? Where your thumb and pinky would be located on the mouse? That part. The MX518 is smooth, which I would think would make your hand slip off if you get a sweaty palm and you palm grip it. The Rough grip on the G5 allows for a better grip that wont slide.
Also the G5 has changable weights, personally I like my mouse a bit on the heavy side so I'm using all six 4.9 weights that it came with, its nice to me.
Like I said, everyone has their opinion, the best for me were:
G5, MX518, Razor DeathAdder, Razer Lachesis.
G5 being the best for my personal liking.
By the way most people wont use over 2000DPI so don't sweat the DPI differences.
I'm using 1800DPI and wouldn't use more. -
I know a lot of people say DPI is really a useless number, but when you have your settings right, you can feel it.
I have my G9 mouse set to its maximum 3,200 DPI, and whenever I tell people this, I get an inevitable sh*tstorm of "LOL HAVE FUN SPINNING 720 DEGREES WHEN YOU MOVE AN INCH U IDIOT". All you have to do is turn down the sensitivity. For example, Team Fortress 2 has a default mouse sensitivity of 3.0, which is fine for most optical mice. Of course, when I crank my DPI to 3,200, it does spin fast as hell. So I lower the sensitivity to 1.0, and leave the DPI at 3,200. That way, it moves just as fast, but it feels so much smoother.
I can only imagine how it would feel on the new G9X with 5,000 DPI. -
I'm currently using a cheapy mouse and I have no clue of its DPI
Can't wait to get my MX518
I like the G5, but it is out of my budget -

For people that are skeptical with wireles....it isntt thatttt bad.
The only problem I have is when I'm doing lots of gaming (like I mean...4+ hours) and the battery dies out on you (since I have DPI to the max..so ya know) so you have to quickly switch it out with the one in the charger (you get better at this after time) and you're good to go.
The wireless being laggy...myth.
I have a p4 with 1.5g of ram and it can barely run my game. But it never lags my mouse when I'm playing. =D
my 2 cents. -
I never noticed any lag, maybe I am not hardcore enough -
Thanks everyone for there comments.. I think ill wait for the samba to come out for a mix between awesome gaming mouse and causual browsing mouse.
With the DPI.. I have a crappy 6 year old microsoft optical mouse and i use sensitivity 16 + in games... -
the mamba definitely has a lot of potential if Razer can cut out the lag from wireless mode without losing too much battery life. here's hoping i'll get a review sample
