Since I'm considering a few laptops (ultrabooks) that do not have an Ethernet jack on them, I'm curious how USB Ethernet adapters perform.
I live in a large high rise building (with a FiOS router) and our wifi is pretty up and down. If I'm at my desk, I plan on being connected via Ethernet but a lot of these machines wouldn't allow that by default.
I'm still considering laptops without Ethernet ports but if the performance is worse via USB then I'll only consider laptops with Ethernet ports.
Anyone have any thoughts/experience with this?

They work fine. You can get ones that support gigabit - not that you'd need that high a throughput when connected to a FIOS router.
You can find them at Best BUY, Amazon or on eBay. -
Unless you are using a USB ethernet adapter for file transfers between two local computers, it is not going to be a bottleneck. FIOS speeds won't be a problem for a USB dongle.

Thanks for the input, guys!
