    Hi all,

I have just recieved my new XPS M1330 notebook from Dell, and are now looking for a USB dockingstation to use with it. The dockingstation needs to have LAN, Sound, USB ports, and VGA, DVI or HDMI output for the screen. There are some with VGA and/or DVI output but the screen resolution is, to say the least, not very good. I am going to be hooking it up to my 24" 1920x1200 display.

So now to my question, is there really not any USB dockingstations that are capable of this resolution? So far i have not been able to find one my self.

Any help and tips would be appreciated.

    /Dinovo

I'm not sure USB can support that high of a resolution. There's a Toshiba and Belkin docking station that supports up to WSXGA+ but not WUXGA.

No USB dock supports that high of a resolution AFAIK...

Thanks for your replies. Yeah, i was afraid that i was wondering in the "not possible" zone.

Oh, well, i guess i have to hook up my display output manually instead then.

Will have to look for a sleek "normal" USB docking station insteed, without the display option.

Wait...I just realized you have an ExpressCard slot. I think there may be some docks that can do what you want with an EC-slot...

EDIT: Not quite what you are looking for, but this one does 1600x1200:

I had bought that one before and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone! The driver support is horrible (as least for me) and I wasn't even able to play videos through them at all due to bandwidth limitations (well, I can play them, but they're just extremely choppy).

Looks like we are getting closer. Maybe, as mentioned, USB 2.0 just is not capable of higher resolutions than 1600x1200?

Expresscard would absolutly also be a way to go - but looks like it meets the same limitations that USB faces?

It has limitations, but EC is about 4 times faster than USB. If you are ever going to find a quality video dock, you'll probably want to stick with EC.

The Dell dock is only for Latitude notebooks...won't work.

The Toshiba dock only supports 1600x1200, and I have a hard time believing it will work well. VGA, 6x USB, 10/100 Ethernet...all from a connection that is only 480Mb/s at best...?

I'm with Greg. I highly doubt it works well at all.
