I'm just wondering whether a USB TV tuner would allow me to play my Wii using my laptop's screen. I'm not sure how it works, or if I need any more items to make it work.

    Any insight would be great.

I will work, but most usb tuners have lag/delay. Should be ok for games that don't require timing (guitar hero, etc).

If you look around, some expresscard tuners have a much better lag times.

Few TV tuners can support A/V inputs but from what i hear it lags.

    :D :D good catch

This guy managed to run his Wii on a $15 PCI tv tuner but keep in mind its for a PCI desktop.

A good USB/expresscard tuner should be able to produce the same results.

PCI cards may have onboard hardware acceleration to quicken the decoding...

i have tested component/svideo from gamecube on my Pinnacle PCTV Pro and AverMedia Volar Max... there's definite a lag there...

If it has a timeshift enabled then it will lag by 1 second.
