Does the quality of USB memory sticks depend on the brand?
For example, is a SanDisk USB better than a generic brand?

I want to buy a 8GB USB without breaking the bank. Which brand and model should i get?

I don't really see a point in spending a lot of money on a flash drive.
Just like RAM, I don't think it really makes a big difference.
Have a look at this 8GB Flash Drive for 27.99$.

I would like a good 4gb flash memory, a mix between performance / quality / good price.

    What do you suggest?

Yes, usually build quality and performance varies. But usually high capacity branded ones are quite expensive compared to generic ones. Personally I wouldn't mind getting a generic, since size matters to me the most.

Also check the price of a 8GB Micro/Mini/ SD card + small USB card reader combo price.

Its not too big of a deal, but there are some with better build quality and some with better performance.

Like for example, a SanDisk Cruzer Titanium has excellent build quality, compared to say an average Kingston, while an OCZ would have excellent performance over both.

Speaking of which, I just picked up an 8 GB OCZ Rally 2 for $30 CDN/US. That thing is blazing fast, at the same price of an 8 GB Kingston!

NCIX.com, but now the price has gone up again, unfortunately. Good thing I caught the order in time...

Anyway, it really depends on what you're working with. If its just Word Documents, you'll take forever to fill up even 2 GB. But if you're working with video, single files can be 1 or 2 GB in size, so it depends. If you can afford it, I see no reason not to get the 8 GB.
