    Hey

Just bought my first laptop a few months back, I got a XPS 1530

Now I want to download ... stuff from my desktop, and instead of using a dvd to burn stuff all the time, I want to buy a Flash Drive.

I have seen some for £20.00=$40.00 But which one to buy.

Some of them say you can only put 1 file of 4gb at a time (fat32) but what about all this HD content that is coming out they are all 4+gb

    Thanks for the help.

exFAT and NTFS are both usable on a flash drive, under Vista... And both support files >4GB.
As for which pen drive, I'd recommend a SanDisk. I myself use a Sandisk 8GB, and a Transcend 8GB.. The Sandisk is much faster, both in benchmarks, and during file transfers..

Looks a little expensive.. I bought mine over a month ago, for the equivalent of £ 14.7, and things traditionally cost more here than anywhere else.. .

The £ is a symbol for the pound sterling(aka British pound-the money they use in the UK) so he is probably in the UK.

Newegg doesn't ship internationally, so unless he knows someone in the US that can ship it to him(tax/vat ect might be hefty), its probably a no go.

[QUOTENewegg FAQ]# Does Newegg.com ship internationally?
Newegg.com does not currently ship internationally; we only deliver to locations within the United States and to Puerto Rico.[/QUOTE]

Yeah I have never seen an 8GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro (the most basic of the current San Disk flash drives) for approximately 28-29 USD - and trust me, I monitor prices of flask disks very very closely. The cheapest the SanDisk ones have gone for are around 39-42 dollars. You can pick up Kingston and numerous other brands of 8GB for about 27 to 30 dollars. So the person who paid 14.7 pounds got a great deal.

Personally, I prefer the SanDisk Cruzer Micro or SanDisk Cruzer Titanium series flash drives. The Titaniums are especially durable and offer very fast transfer speeds.

    See this video:

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?d...isk+Cruzer+Titanium&ei=HZRKSIq0HJTiqgKbovyyDA

(A car runs over one of these drives and the drive is still accessible!)

Anyways, as for best prices on these drives, check out Pixmania or Amazon or something.

    Good Luck!

I never understood this. Don't all USB 2.0 flash memory sticks have the same transfer speeds? Isn't it a standard? If not what specs should a person keep and eye on? I always thought the USB sticks were the same speed.

No their maximum transfer speed is 480mb/s, but bandwidth limitations means this is a lot lower. USBs tend to have read and writes in the 5-30mb/s range. There are few specs given by manufacturers that are reliable, you'll have to count on benchmarks done by others out there. If you want to know which is the fastest usb, it is the lexar jumpdrive lightning 4/8gb. It can reach speeds of 39mb/s. I do not suggest getting corsair voyagers because they have recently switched their chips to mlc, meaning that they are now a lot slower. i really recommend the jumpdrive lightning!

I bought a Sandisk Cruzer Micro 8gb for 19€ (and you can find the same for 16-18€ from the same seller, with luck). (eBay.es)

Ok, so they are not all the same, good to know. But you are saying that there are no real specs to go by to indicate transfer speed, just peoples reviews based on personal experience? I don't like that too much.

yes well i'm afraid most usbs have dodgy specifications.
u can check out reviews on:
    http://www.pendrivereviews.com/
however i can guarantee the fastest usb drive you can get is a lexar jumpdrive lightning.
