My router is about 5 years old and until now I am having some problems with my internet connection. At least twice a day I loose all connection together and un plugging and plugging back in seems to fix it. Its been doing this for several weeks now. Any ideas? A new router (its Microsoft)

Does your router have a build in modem? If you have ADSL I would guess that your modem is losing its sync.

Or you are using torrents or other P2P with too many connections and it is overloading the router.

What is the lease time for IP addresses given out by the router? This could cause temporary interruptions as new addresses have to be obtained.

But I would think it worthwhile to replace a 5 year old router. I am sure the internal hardware has improved and the wireless connectsions are certainly better.

I'm thinking of getting a new router with a couple of USB ports so that I can attach one of my old notebook HDDs as network storage. You can also attach a printer and use the router for sharing the printer on the network.

Yeah, you should invest in a new router.

    I recommend Linksys.
