i'm about to buy a DV9000t and i was looking around for a cheap sturdy messenger bag that would hold it with maybe a book or 2...right now the targus is the best i could find ($36.99 from amazon)...any opinions or experiences (good or bad) ?

I've owned a few Targus bags, and right now I have the basic Urban messenger bag. They are very sturdy bags, and the warranty policy is very good. They aren't the most stylish stuff out there, but then they also aren't very expensive either.

not really looking for "style" just something sturdy for under $40...if you have any suggestions other than targus they would be appreciated (no backpacks though)

I can only echo the good stuff that's said above about Targus.

The only reason why I shyed away from that style was in case I forgot to do up the front buckle and had the laptop fly out :) I went with the Los Angeles model instead (but it's a few bucks more).

You might also consider a knapsack as well.

I have to second the Los Angeles model as well. I have a Fujitsu 17" and it fits just fine. Lots of room for carrying added accessories and the like.
