I was just wondering if anyone has tried putting an external tv tuner on a 12 inch notebook. I have the xps 1210 and I am going to get a $100 gift card from dell soon. The tv tuner is the only thing I can think of in this price range that somewhat interested me.

However, obviously a 12 inch screen is small. However, I am fine with the screen size when doing everything on it but watching tv on it is probably a whole new aspect.

I thought this would be perfect because I could record my favorite shows and it would help in my small dorm room instead of having a regular tv. In addition, I am studying abroad next year and thought this would also be useful.

    Any thoughts?

I think 12" is fine. I watch movies on my 10.6" Fujitsu all the time and enjoy it.

My first TV was a 13" Sony and we're still using it in the kitchen :). For years it was in the bedroom and we watched from the bed, no problem with distance. I think you'll do fine with a 12" screen in your dorm room.

When I got a 15" screen laptop, I was sure that I would need an external monitor because I was so used to the 20" CRT from my previous computer. But the 15" was fine when I started using it and in the end it was 3 years before I got around to getting a bigger external monitor, when I found one on sale.

Your 12" screen is probably the same - sounds small because you're used to bigger screens, 'specially for watching TV. But in actuality, it will probably perfectly adequate as long as the image is sharp.

If you are using it for everything else and are happy with it, there is no reason this will change.
