Is it possible to have hook up an xbox 360 to a laptop through an hd tv tuner? If you can watch HD video from a 3rd party hd cable box than how about using another signal.. like say an xbox 360

If the TV tuner has an input of composite, component, or VGA then yes it can.

I think the quality would be pretty bad using composite (yellow cable that goes with the red and white for audio), but component should come through in 720p or 1080i on your laptop if you're using an HD tuner and look pretty nice.

let me know how it works out for you.

There might be significant lag with this setup. You dont want to go through the computer when hooking up a console to a screen.
