Most of the time, I want my sound coming through my MS Lifechat headphones so that I don't bug the rest of the family. But occasionally I'd like to listen using the Altec Lansing speakers in the HP docking station I have for my Pavilion tx 1000. I'm running Vista Premium.

I can't seem to find anything that will let me switch between these short of pulling out the USB plug for the Lifechat headphones. Is there some other way to do this?

Right click on the speaker icon in your taskbar and go to 'Playback Devices'. It should list the two outputs if they are connected. You can disable either one by right clicking and selecting disable.

Well, close. Actually in my case it showed the USB device and the two others (the internal speakers and the external are evidently different even though it is the same sound card), and I had to click the one I wanted and set it to default. It would not let me disable or change the active one, so I had to go to the inactive one.

However, it otherwise is as you described. Thanks!

Glad it worked. I have not done it myself but I was messing around with my settings to see if I could figure it out anyhow.
