Hi everybody!! first off i would like to thank everyone on these forums for helping me decide which laptop to buy. I just purchased a Dell inspiron 9400 and i cant wait to get it. But i have a question about hooking up the audio to a television is there a better way to do it than just getting an adapter from the headphone jack to the red and white inputs on my tv?? Or is that the only way to get audio out without a dedicated sound card?? Can you even get a sound card on a laptop?? TIA

All laptops have soundcards, but due to the nature of laptops, it won't be the best soundcard in the world.
You can get a PCMCIA card or USB soundcard which will give you better sound quality even when using headphones or speakers. -
the 9400 s video port actually allows you to plug a dongle into it which has spif (i think thats what the audio port is called i'm not sure, some can correct me) which plugs into most surround sound amps, this is a much better way of plugging in your audio as it will give you proper surround sound. Anyway i haven't really looked into it because i didn't get the dongle with my 9400 but read up in your instructions its all in there. Hope that helps you
P.s. if you order the dongle off of dell let me know how you go getting it (price, postage etc.) as i wouldn't mind getting one in the future but can't afford it right now (broke my bank buying the lappy)
