hey guys, I'm looking to get a new headset for gaming on my laptop and for music as well and the Steelseries Siberia V2 USB has really caught my eye. However, ofc there are other headsets and I need your help to choose the right one. It has to be closed as i dont want to disturb the family in the house. It doesn't have to include a mic so Sennheisers or others can be option. The price has to be below £80, but if they are close to that then it can be an option.

The main reasons why i like the Siberia V2 is because of the closed back design and its a 7.1 headset. I have had a look at the G35's and the Razer Megalodon's but they seem too expensive. I'd prefer to stick to the £80 mark.

    Thanks in advance guys :D

The siberias are a pair I have never tried, however i have tried the megalodons and g35. The mechanisms are great for comfort (same as carcharias), and the sound quality is not half bad. The surround sound is great however most music does not utilize that. They are amazing for fps's and general communications, but sub par for music. The g35 are too hot, too tight, and too heavy. Sound is all around balanced. They are also usb powered, so not portable. Not worth the cash.

I would recommend the carcharias if the siberia dont work out. Balanced, open back, light, and inexpensive.

thanks for the reply Blue. Thanks for the info on the G35's and Megalodons. You said the Carcharias are open-backed so am i right in assuming the megalodons are open-backed as well?

I've got the steel series siberia V2, it's open-backed, not closed. The sound is quite good, though I plug it into my own USB sound card, the included small USB sound card is a PoS with lots of sound cracking at certain frequencies.

The Steelseries website says they are, and a i quote "Closed type headphones" unless that has a different meaning.

And through all the reviews i have never heard of that USB issue. I'll do some searches to try and find anything. Do you think it could possibly just be your card ?

Ok, mine is the V1, though I roughly remember a V2 somewhere.

I have a Roccat Kave 5.1 Headset. Its the best gaming headset Ive ever owned period. Built like a tank! Seriously every part of this headset is a very well built... from the headset to the tip of the wires. The outer portion of the ear cups are like rubberized... if you have owned a razer mouse (deathadder, lachesis etc) then you'll know what im talking about. Inner portion of the cups are high quality leather which is hand-sewn. Headset is foldable. Control module is on the heavy side with rubberized base so it wont easily be pulled and dropped accidentally from your computer table. Sound is amazing with its REAL 5.1 surround sound. Sounds much much better than my siberia v2 even with its 7.1 claim. You will need a 5.1 or better card with those color coded plugs for the front/sub, front l/r rear, back l/r rear etc to experience the 5.1 surround sound on this thing. It has a noise canceling design. VERY comfortable. Trust me you wont go wrong with this one.

Oh another thing that I love with this is that it has this LED mute so you would know if your mic is on or off.

Thanks for the recommendation dr3w. I had a look at those too but after I noticed you needed the 5.1 card, I looked away. I can get it for £80 which is the max of my budget haha, and even then it would only be 2.1. So buying a sound card will make me go over budget. I do agree that it does look like it's built like a tank, but I don't want to go over my budget too much. Thanks a lot for your help though :)

Glad to help... if thats the case I'd go with siberia v2. The G35 is too big in my opinion... not comfortable.
