    Is this recommended, or am I better off spending extra money and buying new cartridge?

    I usually refill hp cartridges up to 3-4 times and have no problems yet and the quality is the same. I would say go for it as you can get a refill kit for 1/4 of the price of a new cartridge and can use that refill kit up to 4-5 times
