Hey guys, my Apple Ipod earbuds just broke and I'm looking for a similar replacement. I would get another Apple earbuds but they are just too expensive. Any recommendations?

For that price range, all of the earbuds you could buy will roughly sound and perform the same. If price is your primary concern, then just get the cheapest possible earbuds that you can find.

However, if you are willing to spend up to $30, you can get a significant bump in audio quality over the basic Apple earbuds by buying a different brand. The Sennheiser CX-300B's are my favorite "cheap" earbuds under $100.

Arent the Apple ones only like $30? At least the ones with the mic built in so maybe the normal ones are even cheaper?? I dont think you will find much below that which are very good quality.

I use nuForce. They were around $50 and very excellent quality for the price.

Apples IEM's and Apple's Headphones are NOT high quality.
Typically you gotta start spending near $100 to start noticing good quality headphones.
Otherwise I will recommend those CX300's over the Apple Headphones.

I disagree with the $100 comment. Yes, the audio quality that you can buy jumps significantly once you are willing to spend $100 or more.

But you can still find plenty of cheap earphones under $100... Sennheiser CX-300B's or the Altec Lansing UHP-336 are both good in the $30 range. Shure E2C's, Shure E115's, Etymotic ER-6i, Ultimat Ears UE5, and Klipsch Image S2's are all decent choices in the $60-$100 range.

They won't have the same audio quality as $100+ earphones, but the money you spend on those will definitely go a lot farther than money spent on Apple earbuds.

Meelectronics M-9, Soundmagic PL30, and ADDIEM (Apple In-ear Headphones with Remote and Mic). I recommend the ADDIEM only if you you can find it on eBay, refurbished, for around $30. List price for them is insane.

I see stuff like the logitech superfi 5's go on sale for $50-60 here and there. That is what I would recommend for a small/medium budget.

With $20 and less there is simply nothing "quality" out there, it will make sounds that sound like music though :D

im not an audiophile junky going to toss around recommendations for $500+ and an amp, but I can definitely tell the difference between something in that $50+ on sale range and the cheapo stuff, and you do not need custom made DAC's and stuff to enjoy the difference.

I do have a pair of $400 earbuds though :D but I got them on a deal. ($50)

Don't forget the Klipsch Image S4's. Those are probably some of the best $80~ IEM's in the market, comparable to the ER-6i if not slightly better.
I never meant to say you had to spend over $100, I simply said you'd spend around $100.

I got the MEElectronics M9, but I really don't like how the earbuds are like ear plugs. I'm not a fan of the difference in pressure in vs. outside of my ear. Are there anything that will just sit in my ears?

There are, but they generally don't have as good quality as the isolating IEM's.

Also, in loud places, IEM's are better, as the isolating seal blocks out other noise. This means you don't have to turn your player up as loud, thus reducing the chance of hearing damage or loss.

I suggest you give them a chance - my CX300-II's felt completely foreign to me when I first got them, but I really am quite used to them now.

I have been trying it for the past day and I really don't like increased pressure it creates inside my ears...

Sennheiser MX500 is really good for its price, it performs on par or better than some earbuds that costs 100 dollars or more.

Please, don't buy the Sennheiser CX300, unless you just want bass, and not much else.

    It's too muddy.

Not to get off topic but does any one know of some IEM's that are particularly good with gaming?

Depending on your budget range, there are a few.

My absolute favorite is the Etymotic ER-4P's for about $170. They have a strong focus on clarity and detail, and have a thinner bass profile. The reason I like these is because they give spectacular directional sound. When you're playing a competitive FPS, you can tell exactly the direction from where an enemy is coming far better than any other headphone I've tried.

This gives me an unfair advantage over my opponents (especially in competitive play) because I'm willing to spend more money on gear than they are. And I will abuse the heck out of that advantage. That is far more valuable to me than the visceral "oomph" of bass-heavy headphones.

SkullCandy Smokin Buds are pretty good I picked up a set locally for $30 and they're not bad. They're better than anything I've used under $50.

    answering to the OP's post...

One of the best is the Yuin PK1. ...you've never heard earbuds sound so good.

BUT, it's a high impedance headphone; you'll really want an amp to get the most out of it and hear it the way it was meant to be heard. If you want to drive it right from the iPod, I also have the PK2 and PK3 (and over another 1/2 dozen headphones, but that's besides the point ;) ) As would be expected the PK2 has a cleaner sound to the cheaper PK3 [$40 direct from the US re-seller].

edit: oops. I just saw the follow-up post asking for 'anything in the $20 range?'. You'll suffer serious sticker shock with my suggestions [from $40 - $190], so you may want to ignore them. ;)

I was actually thinking about the PK1's and now that I have an amp on the way its more tempting than ever :D

But I really want a pair of Audio Technica AD700's too :( cant have both. I use my headphones way more than my earbuds so I think the AD700 will win.

I have a pair of expensive Logitech Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10's and dont really use them often because I do not care for the earbud design so thats why going back to old school earphones like the PK1 was appealing to me, also there are alot of times the isolation from earbuds is not desired because you need to hear things around you.

And at risk of hi-jacking the original intent of the thread... Or, you could wait and save a bit more and get the ATH-ESW9 and thus get something in size in-between the two... ;) (and yes, the performance is worth the price; amazingly articulate cans that sounds good w/o an amp; one of my favorites that I own.)
