Hi guys, please recommend me a good gaming headset that doesn't break the bank but offers good audio quality.

I don't want a USB one, my Eurocom Sky X9 laptop has a surround audio port and a headphone input port so I am hoping to use those as to not occupy a USB port

    Hmm.
If you're Looking for a non USB one, choose a good audiophile headset (and by GOOD I meant to stay away from boose or beats).

Choose your favored format (in ear, over ear or around the ear) and go for it.

I have some recommendationsregarding what I would choose if you like:

    - First, the surround on the Sky X9 is sound blaster xFi 5.1. I unistalled it in favor of the Razer's 7.1 surround Pro, which I like much better.

    - for the headset, a audiphile headset will be made to sound much better than gaming headsets on the same price. So choose your price range and dig reviews for the better sounding one on that price range.

    - I had a bunch of in ear headsets and the two better one I owned was the bower & wilkins C5 (around 250 usd) and the Westone 3 (around 350 usd).

I would go for a in ear for sound quality, or for an around the year for sound spacing which would use the surround better; though the C5 have a better sound spacing than maaany around the year, I would even dare to say its better than ANYTHING in its price range.

    I am liking this headset:

Creative SoundBlaster Evo ZX Gaming Headset

But darn it's expensive @ 200 USD, gonna have to wait I guess

Since that SoudBlaster headset also uses Creative software, do you think it would be more suited towards the Sky X9?

The 2 I use are the logitech 933, it's usb wireless or wired but a very good one. The other one is steelseries Siberia elite prism v2 which is usb or wired and very comfortable.

So what is that first audio input jack on the left side on the top? it sounds like some souond of surround port? are there any non-usb headphones that can use it?

The prism uses USB and so does the Logitech 933. I saw the review of both on LinusTech and the 933 tends to fall off your head very easily they said.

Additionally, it seems like the Sibera v2 has issues with Windows 10

Seems like I need to wait to get more money and get some new high end headset

I have never had any issue of them falling off my head. Linus is a pretty small guy though so you might venture out and try some on. Too tight and they would be uncomfortable during long periods. It will pay to order from a dealer near by if possible and utilize that exchange or return policy to see what works best for you.

I don't think there will be any synergy that would improve the quality or change anything.

And I'm sure that spending the same amount of money on a audiophile set would give you bether results. They sound MUCH better (its not even comparable, trust me) and since you can emulate surround well with software, I would go for that.

C9nsider somethings: if you're using a 3.5mm plug, it is stereo output. There is no way out of it. Unless sotware surround.

And by software, you can isntall whichever you prefer. I like razer's better because its 7.1 channels when sound blaster's is 5.1 channels.

If you're not usi g USB, the only way to go its using the optical 3.5mm jack (its the firts one on the left, with a red light). But assume you're using that:

You're going to have a true 7.1 headset with many drivers (like 10, luke the razer tiamat). They are small, to fit that amount inside a headset, and the the sound quality sucks.

The other option (like the astro a40/a50) is a stereo headset with an included sound card that will use a software to emulate 7.1 just like you would if you're pluging a stereo headset to a software like we just said above.

So, unless you build a true 7.1 setup with speakers spread throughout your room, you either have software emulated surround, or a 7.1 set with crappy small drivers.

Then I see the better option is to buy the best headset for the money you want to pay, and wire it to a good software yourself. Nothing will give better results than this, logically.

Thinking like that, razer surround pro is better than sound blaster xFi, because it emulates more channles thus, better sound directioning, and its the same technology their headsets uses. And you don'tneed to worry about the soundblaster that comes with the Sky X9. Its just software. You can always intall both, delete whatever, install again... don'tbe precious about it ;-)

And for a headset, well, tell me your preferences (confort and price wise), and I can try to help you find the one that suits you the best =)

There is a headset online store that offers a very reliable "best headset for the price" list, which they sell. I'll Try to find it and post it here.

I would go for that, and plug then on the stereo 3.5mm jack (p2) and use razer surround pro (free).

    There you go: http://www.earphonesolutions.com

Oh, and if you consider a USB setup, I would go for the 100 USD kraken 7.1.

It has almost audiphile quality, sounds betther than most 200-300 usd gaming headsets and better than many audiophile headsets (they're bether than the famous boose qc15 for instance) since they have those huge drivers.

So you can have an ideia, on strong bass sounds, you actually feel them trembling on your ears!

Theyre even much bether than the razer kraken 7.1 which cost twice, ts from the same brand, and require an actual sound card to run.

Oh, and finally, most people don't care abot it, but I really want the best for what I pay, so I don't like the trade of the wireless headsets offers.

My Sky X9 setup weights 7kg with the PSUs, why would I trade quality for a wireless setup?

Bluetooth compresses sound to send them to the headset. It looses quality. No audiphile will truly recomend that, unles its anecessity like you're using it at the gym...

Bose is not "audiophile" and Razer headsets are terrible.

Buy a good pair of standalone headphones and an Antlion Modmic.

wait a minute, the left side of the Sky X9 has like some port which has a circular wave on it, I thought that is for surround input or something? then you get the mic, then the headphones jack, then somethine that says LF (I guess that's low frequency? maybe to connect a subwoofer?)

I remember back in 2000 I went to a friend's place in Texas and he was playing Quake III with some Klipsch headphones man I could feel every gunshot pound through my heart as if it was a big speaker system but it was juts from 2 little drivers (headphones), thats what I want

Thats what I mean when I tell you to choose an audiophile headset.

Boose and beats are crap. I said that before.

Klipsch use to be great, most seinheinsers are good, westones are all fenomenal for their price, and I'm in love with my bower &wilkins C5s2. They sound much better than almost verything several tiers ahead pricewise. They are much better than the seinheiser ie8 which I had before and costs 100 USD more. They are in-ears with around the ears sound signature and show you every detail of everything with an impressive soundstage, which will give you a very good sensation for the surround and ambience in games.

Razer headsets are garbage indeed, except for the kraken chroma 7.1. That thing isn't audiohile grade for music, but it does sound great with its huge drivers, and sound amazing in gaming. For usb Headsets I think its a good bang for the buck, but surely not the best.

The best I think would be an audiophile headset with a surround software =D

If you like in ear headphones, go for the B&W c5s2. That thing is beyond amazing, and has better sound than earphones that cost 500-600 USD. It is one of those headphones that makes you want to hear all your playlists all over again and discoversounds on your songs you didn't knew they even existed there.

The one with the red light s the digital sound out. The last one on the left I don't know (I'm traveling with my girlfriend and don'thave it here with me right now. Already miss it haha).

The newest Logitech G933 is great. It's USB or headphone jack. You need the USB to get the surround features, but it's super comfortable and so much nicer than the G930.

The best bang for the buck is Kingston hyper X cloud 2's... Probably one of the best "cheaper" virtual surround sound headphones out and have 53mm drivers. The sound stage is great compared to most other gaming headsets. Although not as good as a open back headphone but still good.

:) they are nice for the price. Of course the ultimate setup for gaming is the Sound Blaster x7 and AKG 712pro headphones. Absolutely insane gaming audio...

I missed the AKG7XX on Massdrop, I guess that was 2nd wave, If next one comes I'm gonna grab one !!

    And for OT -
Tried Sennheiser IE80 (The soundstage monster but losses all clarity to mid bass), Vsonic GR07 Bass Edition (this one's superb clarity nice bass but layered soundstage, distant & sounds a bit analytical), And settled with the DUNU DN1000- King of IEMs these are hybrid drivers 2 BA and 1 Dynamic with the best bass and clarity ever possible in an IEM for that price it beats the upper class IEMs which are tad more expensive and it always goes like sonic booom !!
