I feel that if I am going to spend close to 2000 on a new laptop I should get some kind of protection.

I was wondering if anyone has used lojack and has any positive or negative comments on it.

Also, if anyone knows of a good lock that works with the e1705, I would be glad to get one of those.

Or if there are other solutions please let me know what you guys use.

First time you bring it to a public place, put it on a flat surface (closed) take out a gun, place it on top of the laptop, stand up, stretch, holster the gun and use your laptop. Anyone looking too smash and grab will leave :p

Aside from that, never take your eyes off your laptop :p those noisy kensingtons work wonders too...

I ended up buying the PC Guardian Notebook Guardian ComboLock 2200. It got some of the better reviews out of all the notebook combo locks.

However you have to realize that no lock is really all that safe, I thought about the lojack software, that lets police track you notebook if stolen but I settled on getting insurance for it instead. I went to an insurance company and took out a $2400 policy on the notebook for $55 a year or $4.40 a month. This way I'm not as worried about taking it with me places; as it's covered for theft, spills, drops, etc. Also this means that if a newer model of the notebook is out when something happens to it, you get a free upgrade, (I'm not promoting insurance scamming).

Who'd you grab that insurance through? I'm researching that myself...saw State Farm but you have to have a policy of something else w/ them first. Still thinking about it since I need some renter's insurance.

I got it through State Farm. She didn't seem to care that I had my Auto through AAA. Speaking of which I asked about there policy and laptops are covered under your homeowners/renter insurance, however from what I understand that means they will only cover it if it is stolen from your home or car.

Well not only that but I heard if something happens to it, your renter's goes up and that isn't the case with the personal articles policies you can get.

I'm strongly considering State Farm...b/c I believe theirs covers more than just say your laptop...also covers cell phones and whatnot.

Warder, you have no other policy w/ State Farm besides your laptop coverage? I'm just making sure I read that correctly...

None that I know of. However it sounds like it might be a YMMV kind of deal. You might try and different State Farm rep. Also the only places I checked was AAA and State Farm, there are plenty of other insurance companies I didn't even look at.

    Good Luck
