Does anyone have a suggestion for an affordable portable speaker/dock for an iPod Nano?

Try looking for Altec lansing dock speakers for ipod. They look cool.
Also, look for the Wi-Fi dock version. I love its sleek design.

If you're not looking for audiophile quality, check out the ChillPill, or their $10 cheaper but otherwise identical knockoffs, the Tweakers. They sound a lot better than you expect, too. Internal battery that charges via USB, 3.5mm audio jack, adjustable volume, and optional "extra bass" mode.

A quick search would quickly dispel this notion. It's well known in the audio industry that the BOSE brand is hollow, with little quality to back up its reputation.

You need to give more information before we can pick out a specific pair of speakers. Perhaps you can check the ilounge review site for info first?
