    Hello there,

I'm wondering what the difference between these two cases might be?

    SUMDEX Impact guard

    Shinza ZeroShock

I mean, if I drop my backpack (no padding) and my laptop is in one of these, will it break? If I happen to "throw" my backpack onto a table or something from my shoulder, will it damage my laptop?

You should probably do neither with your laptop. But they should both protect your laptop from shock pretty well, though. It's NEVER a good idea to throw it around, though.

The thing is, even if it pads the notebook from breaking, it can still really jar the internal components and work things loose. So you shouldn't count on these pads except in "emergencies".

The difference in the foams would be the density of them. Plastics contain a very large field of materials. And pretty much each type of plastic has many different 'forms' that they come in. I'm guessing that the difference in the foam of these would just be the stiffness of them. The high resistance foam is going to feel a little 'harder' then the memory foam, It will still give some but not nearly as much as the memory foam. With the high resistance foam you want your note book to be alot better fit, if its to small then it will move around alot inside the case, where as with the memory foam then if its not the exact right size then the foam will expand/contract to accommodate the laptop better. And as stated before, unless its your job to test these cases then I wouldn't be throwing my laptop around just to see if it will protect it. lol

agreed, It's just I keep on seeing all of the advertisements and was wondering what everyone's opinions were. And no, I won't be throwing them around. I'm just worried about jarring internal components when I set my laptop on a table after walking to class. I'd want something where I didn't have to worry too much... perhaps that's what the difference is? how you feel about it.

I use the Sumdex as a sleeve in my messenger bag that doesn't have any padding. It does well for protecting the computer from minor bumps, but I wouldn't trust it enough, or any other bag/sleeve, to drop it on the floor or swing it around like a ball and chain. I figure giving the attention my $1,000 investment needs is the best protection, and beats anything a sleeve or bag can guard against.
