I found one of my old wireless optical mice (Microsoft Wireless Optical 2.0), and my Dell Studio 14z has internal bluetooth. I'm trying to get them to work together, but it just wont work. I've installed the mouse's drivers but I'm still out of luck.

I also have a logitech MX6000 that I'd love to get working with this laptop (currently in a desktop setup)

Well first things first. Is the Microsoft Wireless Optical 2.0 mouse you have a Bluetooth mouse or a RF wireless mouse? If the mouse is a RF wireless mouse then it is not going to work with the internal Bluetooth of your laptop; it isn't designed to.

Same point about the Logitech Mx6000 mouse. Is it a RF wireless mouse or a bluetooth mouse. If it is a RF wireless mouse then you will need to use the USB dongle it has and plug it into the laptop to use the mouse.

thanks for the reply. I had no idea that they even made RF input devices. Not gonna find the dongles, so I guess I'll have to start from square one. Thanks for clearing this up.

Since I already have a thread and you seem to know way more than I do about this stuff, can you recommend a cheap bluetooth mouse (probably won't be gaming that much, but I'd prefer laser).

Yes, there are 2 main categories of wireless mice today, RF wireless(which require a dongle of some kind) and Bluetooth mice. I own both types and like them both but love my bluetooth mouse even more than my RF mouse. The reason for that is the very fact that the bluetooth mouse works with my internal Bluetooth. No more dongles to break or lose! I love that. The benefit of the RF wireless mice is that they work on all modern machines and don't require the machine have Bluetooth(as all don't). So, it's your choice but I would go for the Bluetooth mouse if you have internal Bluetooth in your laptop. If you are serious into gaming, then look for a wired mouse.

As far Bluetooth mice recommendations here are some but there are many more out there. Check out amazon and Newegg....

1.) Microsoft Bluetooth 5000 mouse - I had this mouse for a while and it was ok, but I like my Thinkpad Bluetooth mouse way more.

    2.) Logitech V470 - Another popular one.

3.) Lenovo Bluetooth Mouse - The one I own and LOVE :D

I am not sure the mouse you used or the machine you have, but I have to disagree with you. I have used 2 different Bluetooth mice with my laptop and it's internal Bluetooth and they have worked perfectly. It really makes life easy and you are truly using a wireless connection. My recommendation still stands, go with the Bluetooth mouse if you have internal built in Bluetooth in your laptop.

i used the MS 5000, i went through 10 yes ten the first was ok but had to be paired each and every time i used it, it stopped working so i took it back, the other nine never worked at all... a few i could recognise but not connect to...

and i got them from different retailers both locally and interstate so it couldnt be a batch problem, also it was about six months between the 2nd and the 9th one

Wow, 10! I don't know what to say. I never had these problems with any mouse I bought. I had the MS 5000 and it was ok, but I like the more precise tracking of my Thinkpad mouse better(along with a lot of other things). Are you sure the problem wasn't with your Bluetooth card?

The Dell Bluetooth Travel Mouse is another really nice bluetooth mouse... they tend to get good reviews and are relatively inexpensive in comparison. I've had no issues with it whatsoever... connected up just fine with my internal bluetooth card and I havent had to think about it since. Automatically reconnects perfectly after a reboot or waking up from sleep or hibernation.

    Just my .02... ;)

well i was satisfied with the first mouse untill it started lagging (i always had probs connecting, ie re connecting every time i used it and after 2 hr of use) also with that mouse in particular the scroll wheel was really bad although seems to have been fixed in the last 6 or 7 versions...

i tried it on 3 internal bluetooth and 5 external even tried it with instore ones probs about ten, which they confirmed were working. and i had connected lots of mobiles to several of the ones i tested and as i said the stores did confirm that theirs were working fine (laptops)

i even took it to an computer shop who checked with one of their logitech mice was working. all the retailers and three computer shops said that bluetooth mice are very problematic and arnt worth it. and they get 2x return rate on like 2 models of bluetooth mice as they do with 30 odd other wired and wireless... so thats what did it for me as i was still looking for a bluetooth mouse even up untill the day i bought my logitech nano wireless.

anyway if you want to risk it (however it is a hasle and much easier to go with wireless) then go for it but is it really necisary?(spelling???) this is the question i asked myself.

well the two reasons i wanted bluetooth were 1 because it dosnt have to be pulled in and out of the machine every time it goes anywhere, and 2 i cant loose the receiver(as ther isnt one). but a nano receiver fixes those and if you do need to take out the receiver well most have a compartment to put them so tat is solved to.

anyways end rant... thanks for listening and good luck

    cheers

p.s. if you do need to get a refund demand it, one store i had to email head office (which is absolute crap!) dont let this happe to you...
