I plan on taking my notebook -- a one month old IBM Thinkpad R40 to Europe next month. What do I need to purchase in order to plug in my AC adaptor while there? I thought this would be an easy question, but I've spent some time looking around the net and have gotten nowhere.

Thanks in advance for any help

All you need is the Euro power adaptor. I'm sure IBM sells one on their site. You might also try third parties like Belkin for something cheaper. eBay is probably another viable option.

You'll be looking for something like this: http://www.mobileplanet.com/product.asp?cat%5Fid=109&cat%5Fname=Accessories&dept%5Fid=3510&pf%5Fid=MP865107&listing=1&mscssid=C3FXCLS64VGV9HA57CC6C44LUBTG2D4D

Basically you'll plug the adapter into the outlet you're going to use and then plug the power block for your laptop into the adapter. A couple of things to be mindful of: Be sure the kit you get has the correct adapter for your location. You'll notice terms like European kit, Asian kit, World kit, etc. etc. Verify the countries covered before you make a purchase. Also, don't let anyone talk you into a seperate 'european' power block. You already have one, and just need adapters. It'll save you some money. If you don't travel frequently, call the hotel you'll be staying in. During a trip to Barcelona, Spain, I was caught without an adapter. Luckily, the hotel actually kept some on hand and charged me the equivalent of a dollar a day to use it.

Thanks for the answers and the link. I was unsure whether I needed just a plug adaptor or something more elaborate.
