Notebook cooler (Targus 17"?) 2 fans side by side at the center.

Alright so im not sure if this is retarded but it seems like im not getting any cooler temp. Im getting higher temps. Now i dont want to throw this thing away because gf gave it to me as a gift.
I connect it to my USB and it turns on, but i guess this makes the laptop work harder to power the cooler, maybe i should use USB-to-Wall Charger and see if the temps drop?
Also I was wondering if I could mod it so that the fans spin faster. Where should i look for the device in device manager?

make sure the fans are pointed in the same direction. IE, if your laptop fans blow outwards, then they'll be less efficient with a laptop cooler that is blowing air towards the laptop fans.

A USB to wall charger shouldn't make a difference as it'll supple the same voltage.

If the fans are pointed in opposite direction, simple reverse the black and red wires in the fan. That'll make it spin the other way.

You can also run a higher voltage thought the fans using a different power supply, but it will shorten the lifespan of the fans. Of course, you can also drop in some typical desktop 12V fans and get a 12V adapter.

The laptop doesn't generate any appreciable heat from running a laptop cooler. You can probably overvolt the fan if anything, as Orinix said, but that'd be about the extent of being able to mod your fans.

I built my own laptop cooler using a reasonably large 12V fan that I've taken to 29V safely. It's strong enough to push itself across the table starting at 19V, but I keep it at the USB's 5V 500mA limit and it's relatively quiet.

Check where your vents are on the bottom and see if you're getting airflow into them. If your laptop cooler is flush against the bottom of your laptop, you cannot get air underneath it. Try propping up the back of the laptop (off the cooler) so you get the most space you can between cooler and laptop.

In my thread on my custom made cooler, you can see pictures on how I avoided the PC from being to close to the cooler fans. I am using a black foam which angles the PC.
