Ok so don't laugh please! I don't understand what is going on with the Logitech MX revolution...

They sell the mouse on its own with a usb RF wireless reciever... does this mean I need to plug that reciever (i.e. clog up a usb port) for it to work? Or can it connect to my existing wireless thing in the laptop...and if so will I be able to connect to the internet wirelessly at the same time?

    ALSO

They sell the MX5500 desktop set (Keyboard and BLUETOOTH MX Rev Mouse)

So I know this Mx revolution mouse wouldn't clog up the USB as it can connect to the inbuilt bluetooth reciever in my laptop BUT I can't find this version on sale on its own ... you have to buy the keyboard as well ... that is just annoying no and obviously more costly. I read the bluetooth mx rev mouse can also connect via rf as well.

Basically I just want a MX revolution Mouse withouth clogging up a USB port...any suggestions people?

No, you have to plug in the USB reciever in order for the mouse to work.
If this isn't a solution then...
    1) Internalize the adapter. I doubt this is a feasible option for most people, including you.
    2) Get a Bluetooth one. You said you can't find it, but I know several very small BT mice exist.

    Ok thanks for your reply:

    1) No you're right it isn't something I want to get involved in - internalising the adapter (though I did stare at the side of the laptop and think hmmmm....thats where it stops!)

    2) I know other bluetooth mice exist. But not the Mx revolution (bluetooth version) on its own (i.e. not part of the MX5500 set) no?

You're right, but are you looking for this mouse as a mouse for gaming?
If so, you want to stay away from wireless mice anyway, and especially bluetooth.

Hey, sorry no the mouse is not for gaming (no gaming on laptop for me at all these days) ... it will be used mainly for Web development tasks... will it be ok for these purposes?

I guess a wireless wont be good for gaming because of lag potential? which can make all the difference in FPS games.

That's exactly right. Wireless will be fine for anything else, so will Bluetooth. The lag won't even be noticeable.

The only stand-alone BT mouse made by logitech that I know of is the V470, which might be okay... but it's a lot different than the mouse you were initially looking at.

Thanks for you're help, I'll check out the V470, yeah I just really like the MX revolution after trying out a friends one. I think they are expensive though on their own as it is and then to have to buy the keyboard as well to get a bluetooth one just doesn't seem fair to me. And whats even more annoying is that If I wanted a wireless keyboard I would get the diNovo Edge which is like £100 ish on it's own so the MX5500 package has the mouse I want and a keyboard I really don't! Logitech should market their products to meet my needs better!

I have the MX Revolution (2 actually), the VX Revolution and the V470...and I have to say, it's hands down MX Revolution for me. I have used the V470 for some time, but when I switched to the MX, I just can't go back to the V470...sooooo comfortable...

There are 2 versions of the MX Revolution, the MX Revolution by itself, which needs the USB adapter to run, and the MX Revolution that comes with the 5500 combo, which is Bluetooth enabled. However, you CANNOT purchase a bluetooth MX Rev separately (don't know what Logitech is thinking), but you can definitely find one on places like eBay...

For portability I would recommend the VX Revolution, the usb receiver can be stored inside the mouse, making it great for traveling. Oh and you can use the VX Nano's ultra-small usb with the VX Revolution, which you can get here:

PS. Newegg is offering the MX Revolution for $60 after rebate and with free shipping, check out the details here:

You can also get a USB port expander a.k.a. USB hub if you need more USB ports.

Thanks shawnhao and swarmer for those details and suggestions, yeah MX really is a nice device...it looks like very gimmicky but when I used it I instantly thought... where have you been all my life! ...that air mouse they've come out with looks a bit gimmicky to me...I'm in UK so I doubt it'll be worth my while ordering from Newegg...might check the flea bay if there is a reputable seller offering the BT version I might roll with that...

    EDIT:

My brain is slow I just thought of something...maybe they are trying to sell all (or at least the majority) the RF wireless (non BT versions) first before releasing the individual BT & RF wireless MX versions... I think Sony in the uk were doing this with the non dualshock ps3 controllers in the uk before they let the dualshock versions on to the wider market. Cos if they don't do this and release the BT versions they will have loads of obsolete stock.
