    Hi everyone,

I'm planning to buy a new 5.1 speakerset that contains a lot of power.

At the moment i have a 5.1 speakerset of medion which contains a 20watt (rms) subwoofer and 5 speakers (5 watt rms each).

Now i saw a new speakerset of logitech: the z5400:

The subwoofer has 116 watt RMS, the front and rear speakers have 38 watt each and the center has 42 watt.

Is this a good speakerset for me to buy? And how important are those watt's?

The Z5400 is good. If you are willing to spend more money, go for the Bose Companion 5. These are superb.

I have to put in my $.02 about Logitechs. They are good, probably the best buy for the money.
They won't sound the best, but they are good. I've had a pair of Z-460's (400 watt 4.1's I think). VERY loud and HEAVY bass. But a bit muddy now that I have a new 5.1 system in my living room.
Anyway, thats a good amount of wattage for a computer system. You really don't need anything outrageous. Clarity is more important. If you have the ability, find a retailer (like best buy) who carries them and give them a listen.

I'll tell ya what to get...

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7705307&type=product&id=1138085354138

They come in pairs, get two, put two in front of the laptop, two on the floor, facing you.

These are AMAZING speakers. people rave about them. They are actually $200 speakers with the tweeter in another place.

BTW, DO NOT put these near a crt. They are not magnetically shielded.

    Then get this amp:

    http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-956&raid=27&rak=300-956

It'll be a 4.1 system, come out a bit above $200, but you'll have one kick ass system.

Just noticed you'd save some money too, as well as havign a better sounding system.

After that, if you want, you can make it a true 5.1 and get another pair, and use one of the new pairs as a center speaker.

EDITED FOR AN AMP NOT SUBWOOFER

To clarify, if you follow the above advice, you will not be able to play sound through your speakers. The second link he provides is to a subwoofer, not an amp. You will need a amp or receiver to power your speakers. That said, I am all for separates over a boxed system.

    "plop"?
I've had fairly good expereince with logitect but if by "plop", you mean break then no, I've never heard of it.....I have seen some show signs of wear and tear over time though.....For instance...I've got an old x-230 set and though the acoustics tube was dislodged, it still sound almost exaclty the same.....not anywhere close to the sound of a z2300 or z5300/5400 but nice none the less.

If you got the room, go with the bookshelf speaker set. REAL speakers always sound better then computer speakers.
