My on board sound is faulty and not working, so I need to go down the external root. price isn't a problem as I am happy to buy good once.

I will playing games and watching DVD`s and divx TV shows etc. I will only be using headphones and no speakers.

Can use Expresscard or USB as well

I just want the best option for sound quality.

ive recently been looking into this as well, and have come up with a couple of options. one is the Edirol EA-1EX, and the other is the E-MU 2020, both are USB.
rang the guy and he said both were very good, but the Edirol has RCA and headphone outs and the E-MU has headphone, 1/4" and 1/8" outs.
