What are you using as your media player? Some players allow the adjustment of a preamp (iTunes and Winamp are the most common). Also, some audio cards have equalizers that even the sound out to minimize distortion. If you turn the bass down, and the mid range up, it will be louder. It will be less enjoyable, but easier to hear in a loud environment.
There are also hardware amps, but I know nothing about those.
    Good luck.

That, plus your headphones might have an issue. Are they loud on other devices?

Use VLC. I only use that on my laptop because any other video/media player just doesnt get loud enough. VLC + 100% audio normally does the trick.

WinAmp's equalizer will also allow you to boost the audio. There's probably even a Plug-in available to do it automatically.

Yes there is. I love it, very helpful.
It is called "Enhancer," and it also has other features like Bass, Treble, and Ambiance. I only use the auto-volume though.

Hope you like it, if you choose to use it.
