Well I browsed around a few computer stores today looking at monitors. I was VERY dissapointed by apple and Dell. Apple had dim monitors while dell... dell they were a disgrace.. hard to read and dim with very poor build quality.

    I settled to 2 possible candidates (BOTH 24 inch 1920 by 1200 res and 400 cd/m2, 100W power consumption):

    1) Samsung Syncmaster 245B Plus ¥39,375 (393$)

    Matte
    (GtoG) 5 ms

    2) Acer P243WAIDA ¥47000 (470$)

    Glossy
    (neutral) 2ms
HDMI port (i use vga but for next year..maybe of use when i build a desktop)

I am a Glossy user and cannot stand matte and may game on the monitor. The acer does look "cooler". The thing driving me to the samsung is the price, at under 400$ it seems almost like a steal.

Would there be anyway to make it "glossy" with a cover and gain the features of glossy aswell. The acer did have a prettier screen aswell.

Just looking for opinions thanks guys

I have a 22" Syncmaster that is matte. I got it because I was using one at work, working at a game studio. There may be glossy screen films you can get or something, but honestly, if that 24" is anything like my 22", you don't need to worry. It looks great when gaming as is.

I checked it out at Circuit City, and they had some glossies. One of the salespeople tried to sell me on a glossy, but the damn thing looked like a mirror. I'd say try to find one of the 24" Samsungs in a store and give it a look.

Samsung has DVI. Pretty sure neither has built in speakers, so HDMI would add limited if any value. Your giant bold font is cute though.

Are there any screens you recommend in that price range that have "better specced" screens?
