Specifically with an R705 Toshiba. Do you think 23 inch is too big for use though? I dont want something too big and i think 23 inch would be my limit. thank you

23" Is my limit also... If you're looking for a brand, stick to the big ones like Asus, Samsung, LG. LG and Samsung make their own panels, so they have really good quality. I had to purchase about 40 LCD Monitors not too long ago, and I went with 20" Samsung's and not a single one of them had a dead pixel. Do you have a brand preference?

    For what purpose?

For gaming a 120hz TN panel would be good. (not as good vertical viewing angles)
For the best viewing angles and color an IPS monitor would be good. Dell U2311h, NEC EA231WMI, HP ZR24w (24" 16:10)

If it's a secondary display, quality and the best of specs may not matter. for my usage, the secondary display is mostly static, so high specs don't matter, and in many cases a laptop isn't capable of putting out high res @ high frequency @ high color bit to a second display anyway.

If it's a primary, go for broke.

Just what is your usage, since you posed the qualification of "for my use"?
