    Hi guys,

I am living in a non air conditioned room in Australia, and it's hot like hell in the middle of days.
My cpu often goes up to 100C and throttles when I game, and it is so warm even with light load.
I've got a cooler master U2, but the fans are broken. To be honest, even if the fans are working, it doesn't really do much. The fans are pathetically weak and the pad itself blocks most of the airflow due to the tiny little holes.

I am looking for a cooling pad, a real powerful one. I don't care about the mesh, the noise, extra ports or any other nonsenses. Just shear strong air flow is what I'm looking for. I won't mind if it's 4000 rpm and loud like jet engine. Anyone has came across products like this?

I am not aware of something you can buy that is worth a darn. Just about all laptop cooling pads are trash where cooling is concerned, and I have tried several that have received good reviews. The one you already have is made better than almost anything else, but the stock NotePal U2/U3 USB fans are just as pathetic as the all of the other brands. The top surface blocks air flow on all of them I have seen. Even a wire mesh grille is going to impede air flow and create some turbulence. Whether the "holes" are big or little, the blockage usually works out to about 50%.

If you want something better than what you can buy anywhere, keep your existing cooler and add a couple of 120MM case fans and an AC powered fan controller just like both of my NotePal U3 mods... [ NotePal U3 Plus Mod] [ NotePal U3 Mod]

The filters also really help cut down on the amount of crud that gets ingested into the laptop. As the U2 is smaller, it will not accommodate three fans, but it can probably accept two. Measure to be sure, but I think it will easily accept two 120MM fans.

    Part List:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999167 - SilenX IXA-FCEX Controller, Panel - Newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835200021 - Rosewill RFX-120 120mm Case Fan - Newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811988015 - Rosewill RFT-120mm Case Fan Filters - Newegg.com

You can probably get higher CFM fans than those I am using. In a hot room without air conditioning, it's going to be a challenge, so getting the most wicked desktop case cooling fans you can find is probably a good idea as long as their power demand is not greater than the fan controller's capacity.

Thank you Fox bro. After some googling, I have given up searching for a new cooling pad. Most of them on the market are hopeless. I understand a cooling pad probably won't help the internal temperature a lot (unless the pad is heavily modded like yours). After my recent upgrade of storage into a RAID 0 setup, the surface temperature of my system has been pretty high. As there are two SSD sticking closely together and generating heat at the time. That's why I wanted a better cooling solution.
Once I have some free time, very likely I will try modding my current U2. Sadly I don't have the tool to cut out the part of pad directly under my intake.

If you do it the way I did there is no cutting. The only tools needed were a screwdriver, nylon cable ties and electrical tape to organize the wiring, and high-strength rubberized mounting tape to attach the fan controller. It could improve air flow to cut out the top of the cooler above each fan, but that will undoubtedly affect its structural integrity. This actually improves my load temps about 8-10°C whereas most coolers, include the U3 using the stock fans, is almost too little to matter (2-5°C in load temps).

Looks interesting, how load are the fans? Much loader than the stock U3 fans, or quieter maybe (larger/slower spinning)?

The fans are louder of course.. Stock Notepal U3 fans are quiet but hardly push any air tbh... Good as useless...
