I'm looking for a Portable External Speakers for my notebook. Some requirements:

    1. Output volume: Loud enough for presentations in a classroom.
    2. Power: Battery- or USB-powered. No A/C.
    3. Size: Small

    Any recommendation is greatly appreciated.

Have a look at the Logitech V20 Notebook Speakers.

Note that I don't own them, so I can't tell you if they sound any good at all. Logitech is usually a pretty decent company for speakers though, so it should be on the safe side.
From the information, they're USB powered and seem to be pretty portable.

they are quite portable and are USB powered. I got them over the summer and i have been extremely satisfied by the quality of sound it produces. even on minimal volume, it is very good.

for your optimal volume requirement, how big is the classroom? if it's a lecture hall-sized room, the sound might be a bit small. if it's a regular classroom, however, it should be perfectly fine for everyone in the class to hear the presentations.

A large classroom with a lot of people wil soak up the sound from USB or battery speakers very quickly.

You really need something with 8D battery power and it will be heavy and it won't be cheap.

This one only uses 6 D batteries, but should still provide suffucient output. There are others, for more money. Try an Amazon search for "JVC Boombox".
