Can anyone recommend a good messenger bag that also holds laptops? I've started looking for one and I'm overwhelmed by the selections.

I want something big enough to hold my laptop (13.3") and a few books for class. I've also considered ones that are designed to be easier for going through security checkpoints.

There are so many out there now it's almost hard figuring out where to start, so I thought I'd look for recommendations first.

Forgot to include that. Sorry. Ideally, I'd like to not spend any more than $100.

    Give BumBakPaks a look:

BBP Laptop Bags - Hybrid Bags, Breathe Sleeves, Industries Backpacks, Industries Messenger, Expand-It Messengers, DSLR Slinger

I have the Hamptons version, though the Hauler Hybrid is half the price of the Hamptons and has most of the functionality.

The big benefit of the Hampton is the ability to convert the strap from a backpack style (with low-slung case to disperse the weight) to an over-the-shoulder style messenger bag. It's handy for when you're walking and need to carry it a different way. The over-the-shoulder mode is secondary to the backpack mode (as stated on the site), so know that the clasp and the strap padding isn't as centered like most other pure messenger bags.

Even so, I've found that the Hampton worked really well for me, and had more than enough room for my stuff. I used to travel all over with it (Germany, Netherlands, Kiev (Ukraine) and all over metro Seattle and found it to be sturdy and useful. Oh, and the ability to slide the back through totable luggage handles is pretty neat and handy.

Good luck, and post here or PM me if you have questions about it. Oh, and I'm not affiliated with the company, just someone who stumbled upon reviews of it about three years ago and pulled the trigger. :)

Check out with Briggs & Riley - they have some good checkpoint friendly bags and you may find something suitable to your needs.

From my experience those checkpoint bags isn't really much easier or faster. It just provides a peace of mind for people who don't like taking their laptops out of their bags. Plus, manufactures always charge a premium for that "privilege".

Nice review! :D I have a (discontinued) Timbuk2 Outtawhack myself. Are all the custom order bags made in SF?
