Keyboards Thread!

I'll start this thread, as I made a review about the Logitech G512 /w comparisons to the older G810.

I have been using Logitech for a while now, and I like Brown switches in general.

I made a video review about my current keyboard, the Logitech G512, and after years of using te G810, I'm finally happy to upgrade to something a bit better

What keyboards are you using? why do you like them?

 

Before I purged it, my YT channel was pretty much nothing but mechanical keyboard reviews. Right now I'm rolling a fnatic miniSTREAK with Cherry MX silent red switches. It feels really solid, and I love the adjustable wrist rest that's included.

 

Woah, I was considering it actually, but I personally can't deal with not having a num pad (?)

How do you go around this?

 

ThinkPads have very good keyboards, so my main desktop has a ThinkPad Compact Bluetooth keyboard, though I sometimes miss the 10 key. I have a mouse hooked to the PC too, but sometimes when I'm lazy, I'll use it in my lap with the stick.

I have a Mac and a HTPC, which I use the Logitech K811 and K810 with respectively paired to an Elecom trackball. Both are used frequently in low light, so having a backlit keyboard is most advantageous. They light up when I move my hand over the keyboard. I wish my notebook did this. My ProBook notebooks keyboard is firm and backlit too. It's serviceable. but nothing special.

Finally, I bought a Logitech K400 at Walmark some years ago for $15. It's a subpar keyboard to type on, but I keep it around because my other keyboards are Bluetooth and if one disconnects or I need ti install the OS, I can plug it in and easily get the other keyboard to work.

Woah, I never thought people would prefer them over other stuff like Logi or Razer and such

 

I have a Bluetooth numpad, but it turned out to be way too much hassle to deal with. Plus, I also just picked up a Logitech G604 mouse, and I'm OCD about keeping my mouse and keyboard within the same software ecosystem. I was considering shelling out for the G815, but I happened to see that Walmart put the G512 Carbon on sale for $79.99. The store nearest me had it in stock so I grabbed it. The switches are Kailh clones of MX browns and feel stiffer. They're also not as smooth as I was expecting, much less so than Razer orange but definitely more tactile. I'd say $80 is about the right price given the otherwise solid build quality, per-key RGB lighting, USB pass-through port, and decent software if you're looking for more of a set and forget solution than what either Corsair or Razer offers. The most unfortunate aspect is that the bottom row is not only non-standard, it's completely unique to Logitech, which makes finding replacement keycaps virtually impossible.
