I'd like to buy a keyboard strictly for playing games. When I play I only use the left side of the keyboard and mouse. When I travel, it's hard to take a full keyboard along as it doesn't really fit in my backpack. I'd like something like the Nostromo but with more buttons on the far left side. I Use CTRL, Shift, alt and spacebar. I'd like basically just 1/2 of a keyboard!

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

FYI, with the Nostromo (and presumably the G13), you can bind any of the keys to any keyboard key using the driver software. So you could have Shift, Alt and Space anywhere you like. I think by default the far left row is Caps Lock, Shift and Ctrl, but I re-bound them to Tab, Shift and Ctrl, with Alt being the little thumb button above the space bar.

Thanks for the input. That's what I was hoping. I'm currently looking for the g13. I think that the g13 layout will work better for me.

I've tried both the G13 and the Nostromo. The latter feels far more comfortable and natural compared to the G13. If you have the chance, try them both out. You can bind the keys on either device to a single key or a macro via the driver software.

With your experience with the Nostromo, would you say there are keys in the same general location as the left shift and ctrl key are? I like using those keys with my pinkey as well as space with my thumb.

I used to use the G13 when I had my desktop and liked it very much. I tried the Nostromo but I couldn't get use to the button layout. It just didn't feel natural for some reason. They are both good products so it all comes down to which one you think feels more comfortable/natural.

the thing I hate about the G13 is the space bar can be a headace, sometime jams and won't press when you're trying to press it from the tip! (yeah, space bar is too short!)

you need to think about a REAL mini mechanical keyboard with suitable switches

I have a CMstorm quickfire rapid keyboard that I love. They are always on sale for around $60 and offer a lot of quality and value for the money.

these popular branded keyboards are gimmicky as they can get! most of them you cant change to your favorite switches without modding it!

    $60 where ebay?

Have you seen one w/ reds for that price. This is the keyboard I was thinking to use for my desktop. Id stick with my KBC Race or Poker for laptop though as they are smaller.

I use Steelseries 6G, it isn't actually that bad to carry around in my backpack. However, when it comes to mechanical keyboards, you should definitely try out different kind of switches before purchasing one.

I couldn't find them with reds at the time. The best deals I have seen on reds were on a Corsair K60 or a Rosewill for about $75 shipped. Keep an eye on slickdeals.net. I got mine (with blues) from Newegg for $60 with free shipping. NCIX's US site had them for like $55 shipped a few weeks ago. You just have to keep your eye out for them.
