i'm thinking to get an ipod nano, but i'm considering about other choices too. i am really interested in sandisk sansa fuze, they have the same form factor and almost identical in looks
i need some input from you guys, do you guys thinks fuze will be better than nano, sound quality and build quality wise?
or maybe you have some other alternatif that i didn't notice.
    thanks alot :)

heyy, i just got a Zune 80 (80GB model) recently, and i like it alot more then using my friends Ipod Video, PLUS, its something different so i get alot of people asking me what it is (since i live in Canada, almost no one has heard of it too which gives me extra bragging rights :p). you should check out the Zune models, they have 4GB and 8GB models which resemble the old nanos, or a 30GB model, or the 80 gig with a 3.2" screen that i have.

however, its personal preference. personally, i like using my old Philips Go Gear 8gb player more then my Zune or any other player mainly because it had a touch interface (which was definatly different when it was first released), resonable battery life, and a really convient interface as well as navigation.

so in a nutshell, try out everything, and buy what you find easiest to use, and best bang for your buck. good luck.

btw here is the link for the Zune website.

Have you thought about a Creative Zen. I have the 2 GB one and it's an amazing PMP. I paid 79.99 for it and you can expand the memory by using SDHC cards. If you have the money you can buy the 32 GB Zen.

The Sony Walkman line is definitely worth a look:
    http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...0551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=16178

My main gripe is the lack of on-the-go playlists. Otherwise, my A818 is nearly perfect.

Regarding the Sansa Fuze, the cool thing about it IMO is the MicroSD slot... so you can (for example) turn your 8 gb player into a 16 gb player down the road. The other cool thing is that it's much cheaper than the Nano. And like the Sony players, you can sync with the software of your choice, or just drag and drop the files onto it.

I'm 100% sure that the sound quality of the fuze will be better than that of the nano(at least if the really do put the same chip from the clip in it). Currently the sound quality of the Sansa clip is pretty much the best in the DAP market, and the fuze is supposedly using the same hardware. My favorite player at the moment is the Cowon D2, Its a great player, I was impressed with it before I ever saw one, and after I bought one and got my hands on it I was 10x more impressed.

I bought a 30gb Zune, and I must say I'm very very happy with it. I had an iPod mini before, and I messed around on my friends iPod video, but I absolutely love my Zune.

Beware thought, the software is really bad, but on the other hand the player is phenomenal.

Sound quality on the clix is great. The interface is also very easy to understand and straightforward with the click system

I cant recommend that player enough for a small, flash based player especially if you plan on watching movies on it. The AMOLED screen is just excellent. The reviews of it are all very positive

And all of the players recommended so far are much better choice sound quality wise than anything iPod

This is simply not true. The Ipod has a highest quality DAC out of all of these players. I don't like Apple at all and try to avoid giving steve jobs any of my money, but it's the truth. Just go to head-fi or any audiophile site and look at what mp3 players are being used as sources.

iPods do use good DAC chips, which is necessary but not sufficient for good sound quality. There is still plenty of opportunity to muck up the signal after it comes out of the DAC chip... otherwise we wouldn't have modification projects like the iMod.

I realize this is true, but don't you think there is a reason they don't spend much time modding other portables?

LOL... Yes, I do think there's a reason:

    Market share.

Plus the fact that there aren't many hard drive-based portables around, and it would be harder to do (I would think) on the flash ones since they're usually a lot smaller.

Also, the iPod has a good UI, and the models they mod have a lot more storage space than most other portables... there just aren't that many hard-drive based players around anymore.

people who spend thousands of dollars on headphone setups choose to mod ipods instead of other portables simply because they have more storage space... yeah, that totally makes sense.

Well people who spend thousands of dollars on headphones first choice of listening to their music is not a DAP. Thats why the previous post of space, good UI, average sound, and popularity are dead on for why the iPod is a popular choice.

    Yes

ok, i went around and found out that sony is not that good looking
now it's only between sandisk sansa fuze or ipod nano
i search around google but nothing that compare them side by side.
i don't have a first hand experience with fuze coz i could not find them in store yet, but my roommate has a nano, so i know how good a nano is
anyway, from all the review that i read, they say that fuze does not have a good built and nano being made off metal should be better build than plastic

Thats your call. You need to decide if you want the better sound quality from the Fuze or the better build quality from the iPod.

I'm going to assume that your implying that people buy the ipods for sound quality. But at the same time, I'm also going to assume that your not very smart. Not all of the people that spend $1000s on headphones and sound equipment buy ipods. I know plenty of people that have very expensive sound equipment(headphones, headphone amps, DACs and such) which use players other than ipods. ipods are popular because they're ipods, out of all of the DAP's I've had experience with and used(I've dealt with pretty much every brand and multiple players from each brand) I certainly wouldn't put ipods at the top of my list, theres plenty of other players which would be above it for many reasons.

To the OP: Yes the fuze sounds as good as the clip. If you want alot of good reviews and a community to research mp3 players on then go to www.anythingbutipod.com Its a very good site.

Some people may say that the iPod is just hyped up but seriously, it's living up to it's name. The interface is simple to use and iTunes works. Try out a couple of your friend's and make the choice from there.

I liked my 3rd Gen iPod until somebody stole it. I've been using my 5th gen Video since it came out. I didn't buy it haha, some girl did.

can't wait till fuze come to local store in washington.

    @syndrome
thanks for the link, actually i've come across it when i was searching for fuze review. it's a good website but they don't compare nano and fuze side by side too
but it's ok, i'll find it myself later. and i 'll put my review here.

i got a second hand ipod nano 8 Gb for $125, great condition with few scratches at the back. it was an offer i can't refuse.
i think it was a save bet on choosing ipod, coz eventho sansa fuze might be better but at least i got a nice price.
now i only need to figure out how to clean those scratches...

125? The 8gb fuze is 130USD at best buy, and thats for a new one. Personally I'd pay the extra $5 and get a better player. :D
